250MH or fluorescents?

Hi

im a new grower and im just wondering if i want to start some clones what would be better a 250watt MH or a bunch of fluorescent?

I would only use the light tilll flowering the i would switch to a 400watt HPS

Two 18 watt Nec Tri-phospher fluorescents that are two foot long will grow 20 clones to a height of 18/24 inches------->aquarium light = a saving of 214 watts.

Or two 40 watt fluorescents = a saving of 190 watts

I dont know of any places online but pet shops with aquariums would be a good place to start looking.

You can also use compact fluorescents, they are cheaper and more effective than aquarium lights.

One or two desk lights will do the same job, just depends on how many clones you want to start. Keep it simple until you get the hang of it.

I got a compact fluro from bunnings. 27watt I think it is at 5100Kelvins.

 

The bayonet holder type. Bought a plug, half a metre of cable aswell.

 

The bayonet holder tells you where to wire the active, nuetral and earth.

 

I also bought a small sheet of mdf and screwd the bayonet holder to the mdf and made a little stand for it.

 

The bayonet holder I had actually lets u angel the globe which I found pretty handy. Heres a pic of the light. Set me back $25 there abouts for the compact fluro, holder and plug. I have some cable lying at home.
