Can you make a silencer?

Is there a way to make your own ventilation exhaust silencer?

Had a look around on the web...only commerical silencers available...surely you can contruct

something to do the same job???

 

Any help would be appreciated!

I built a silencer box to suit my 200mm cenrif fan, all i did was got some 6mm thick pine board built a box to go around the fan with 2 200mm holes for ducting, lined the inside of the box with thick foam rubber put top on and bobs ya uncle.

 

Since i have put mine into the box to keep it quiet instead of a loud fan i now only hear a small hum coming out from the silencer box...

I just finished my "silence box" a couple weeks ago. I think did a good job. Without it the fan was rated about 58dB and I could hear it from downstairs and with my bedroom's door closed. It was difficult to sleep. After I did that I can hear almost nothing. My computer does more noise than my fan. But the real noise now comes from the ducting. It is not a real problem as the grow "cabinet" is in a bathroom and the door is kept locked at all times.

 

Take a look at my Topic in the grow diaries forum (just added it) maybe you like the idea. If you build one let me know how you did. So I can improve mine, if I need.
