POLICE have seized more than 1400 cannabis plants from 10 hydroponic houses with a total street value of about $5 million after a series of raids in Sydney's west.

 

Police yesterday said they had cracked a major Sydney drug syndicate following the seizure of $3.6 million worth of cannabis during the raids but have since revised that figure to $5 million.

 

Three people have been charged with drug cultivation offences and one man has been released following the raids as part of operation Yalumba.

 

A toddler was also removed from a drug house.

 

Police raided four homes yesterday and on Saturday at Oxley Park, three at Colyton, two at St Marys and one at Mt Druitt.

 

More raids are expected to follow.

 

Police found more than 1000 cannabis plants in various stages of maturity inside the Colyton and St Marys addresses.

 

Police also found more than 400 cannabis plants at the Oxley Park addresses.

 

A 32-year-old woman has been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of a prohibited drug, enhancing indoor cultivation of commercial quantity and organising, conducting and assisting drug premises.

 

She was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.

 

A 35-year-old man has been charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of prohibited plant and using a drug premises.

 

He was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court.

 

A 40-year-old man has been charged with supplying a commercial quantity of a prohibited plant, cultivating a commercial quantity of prohibited plant and being an owner/occupier knowingly allowing use as drug premises.

 

He has been refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today.

 

A 34-year-old man has been released after being arrested at a home on the Great Western Hwy, Oxley Park where police removed a male toddler who was believed to have been living at the premises.

 

The toddler is now in the care of his relatives.
