48 Hours of Darkness

Any comments, please, does it really matter to do the 48 hours of darkness prior to harvest.

I don't bother gills. Personaly I don't think it makes any difference.

Made the leaf go droopy and didn't seem to do a damn thing for the bud in my opinion.

BushyOldGrower started this nonsense at Overgrow as far as I can recall and I'm still to be convinced it works.

His view was that it made the plant think it was mid winter and pushed out extra trichomes to protect the seeds? till they could sprout in spring.... sounds even stupider after explaining it

I personally don't bother you should finish the grow when the plant is ready imo tricks to make it finish up just are not worth it

another consideration is mold , molds thrive on dark wet areas so any existing issues will be accelerated and you stand the chance of issues starting in that 48 hour period

i can see the light of his madness

but his methord may need some fine tuning

yo we know

from the second set of true leaves

cannabis constantly releases sex hormones that trigger the start of the reproduction cycle or bloom cycle

sex hormones till it dies

now these sex hormones are destoied by sun light

13hrs or longer sun light hrs = low levels of the sex hormones = veg cycle

as the sun light hrs gets to 12hrs or shorter like in winter

so the sex hormones level builds up and startes to effect the growth cycle

this is called the ---> change over period

the change over period usually takes about 2wks

from the time she starts to stop growing up and start growing out

at the end of the 2wk change over period she fully kicks in and starts growing bud

the hrz of darkenss rulez for high levels of cannabis sex hormones

a short period of extended darkness imediatly before the start of 12/12 bloom cycle

might help get the sex hormones up to an effective level more efficiently

and thus shorten the 2 week change over period

 

it has some weight to the thieory

 

on the down side

it will stress the plants

any sudden change will stress the plant

more stressed plants = slower she grow

theres a piont of noreturn in stress levels

48hrz may be too much stress

for the plant to recover quick nuff to cut time off the change over period

thus noreturn

20hr of darkness would be less stressfull on the plant

might cut the change over period in half
