Harvest Time?

Recommended Posts

My flowering plant became very root bound and fan leaves and regular leaves started yellowing and dropping like flies. The soil had become very compact... 10cm+ and so had to transplant back into the same pot (A no no in any garden book I know) but with 10cm+ extra soil placed in.

The results are that these buds aren't that compact or big and alot of the pistils are turning dark in some parts (main head) but not side stems...

The flowering is at approx 46 days... ...I was thinking of harvesting into this comming week or in a weeks time... around the 50-60 day mark... thoughts?

It really doesnt matter about the colour of the pistils. Its the trichromes that you should be watching. Get yourself a 10x or 20x jewellers loupe and look at all them white crystals. If you do a search on the forum you will find a few pictures of what your looking for!

Nice effort man either way. IMO you could be waiting another 4 odd weeks before thats ready to pull, but it should probably fill out quite a bit more before then. Do you know the strain and normal flowering time?

Complete mystery seed but it is noticeably filling out only a few days after starting the thread

Chop the male for sure, but I'd be inclined to hold off a bit longer with the other one.

You've got me a little confused though.. the plant in the close-up shots in the 1st post has long thin sativa-looking leaves, but the first plant in your 2nd post has big fat indica-looking ones ..maybe it's just an illusion or I'm too straight :)

Nice buds anyway mate, I hope she's a nice smoke for ya :)

Pick em , now . Theres a few reasons why , depending on what sort of stone you like . I would'nt leave em any more than another week !

Yeah I will hopefully grab a 30x glass tomorrow and check it. Determine if it needs a few extra days but hopefully before a weeks time I will finally have her upside down. (A long wait, haven't bought any and smoked very rarely so far this year)

The last 7 days has seen it fill out nicely. It is only at 56 days so hopefully the 30x reveals some smaller secrets as to how it is going.

The male got the scissors that day and of the remaining two plants, both AfghanXMorrocan one topped one normal, the normal has starting showing me her hairs :argue: and the topped plant, a real branching out monster, is being frigid and not showing me.

Yeah its a strange one. The first shot in the first post a lot of the side branching is at the back. The first shot in the second post it is turned 180 degrees (the first shot right hand side branch becomes the lower left hand side branch in the second)

Many of what will end up being the trim leaves (zoomed shots) are thin. Many of the fan leaves (about 8/10ths of which all yellowed and dropped presumably from root bound) were relatively thin but those single medium sized leaves are real chubbies.

Thanks

It is always hard to tell exactly when. To my mind the season is early this year due to the late hot period and the early cold snap immediately following.. and most of NSW/Vic/Tas and SA would have experienced the huge dust storm and high winds or maybe heavy rain.. a week ago.

This turned all the pistils brown and coated the leaves with red mud for me.

So I am afraid that my early pick is now back to the normal time of Anzac Day. I can continue picking until mid July in many years, depending on the species/strain or upon the actual age of the plant. A mature plant will not keep it's full potency after heavy frosts but in truth the level of potency does not wane if there is still good sun. If the plants are now losing full sun then they will suddenly lose a lot of potency. These plants in your images appear to be getting filtered light but quite full at the time of the shots. What are the daylengths of bright sunlight in the spot and how long does the wall stay warm for? Some of your buds are riper than others. If you really want a smoke yes I'd be picking those first and if you want a smoke take a top bud off the best looking plant and leave the rest to thicken more if it is going to. There is plenty of time as long as they get sun and.. when in pots you can rearrange the position far easier.
