I'm curious to know how much the equivalent (output, not input) CFL would cost to run over the same time period. Since it will obviously be less, does anyone know the advantage that standard incadescent bulbs have over CFLs if all they do is heat up more and cost more to run?

you will never get the same yield from a cfl as you would an hps, yes there is more heat but results speak for themselves.

firstly if you mean standard light globes in a house 'standard incadescent light' they are useless for growing...

 

...secondly HPS have a higher P.A.R. (photosynthetically active radiation) rating which is a more accurate description of the actual part of the E.M. spectrum that the plants utilize paticularly for flowering, which results in denser buds 'cause of the denser P.A.R. rating. It is better than watttage or lumens as guide lthough they are useful guides also...use all three!!..
