btw, the Multiguard snail pellets are made with Iron EDTA as the active ingredient, and I can highly recommend them to people wanting a safe alternative to pesticide based pellets/treatments. This breaks down into a plant nutrient (it's the same stuff as you have in your A+B hydro nutes) and is harmless to people and pets. It's not a bad idea to have a few pieces of tube with the pellets inside. This can help to keep pets away from them if you're still concerned about it, and also protects the pellets from rain.

Beer is a great attractant. A shallow (2-4cm) dish of stale beer will attract them very quickly where they can be drowned.

A circle of sawdust around the base of the plant helps, this makes it difficult for them to cross.

A couple of bands of copper strip (2-3cm wide) around the stem (reasonably loose, you need room to grow) or the outside of the pot will also discourage them safely.

A few holes in the leaves won't hurt the plant spectacularly, but it won't be good for them. If it's a big plant I'd just handpick em and live with it, but if it's small it's important to protect them from damage as a few snails could quickly devour a small seedling.

Hope that helps.
