" ...if the land owners in southern Queensland owned that part of the river then surely they would take as much water for cotton as they need which would result in those downstream" suing the bastards up river.

"If a whole corporation owned the entire river system whats to stop them holding the whole country to ransom as they would own Australias main food producing areas."

The Australian people should own Australia - all of it! There are any number of ways all of Australia can be given to the people.

"Have you seen how mining companies have behaved in PNG?"

Who owns the land in PNG? Yeah that's right, the same as in Australia - The Government!

If you have a look at the various Real Property Acts throughout Australia you'll discover that the Australian governments own all of Australia's land mass and this was confirmed by Justice Hayne of the High Court of Australia not that many years ago.

Mussolini was originally a Communist until he realized ‘that all bank-vault doors open to the right’. Nonetheless, controlling the economy remains pivotal to all governments of the western world. Fascism’s economic policy is corporatism - that essentially is a re-gigged, more efficient version of what passed for economics in the Medieval and Renaissance periods. The governments of the western world also adopted corporatism. In America, this occurred quickly under the cover of WWII and FDR.

The problem with non-market interference in the economy is that it always distorts the price mechanism which is that horrible device used to allocate scare resources. Ludwig von Misses published a book in 1920 explaining the economics of why the Soviet system would disintegrate. After he died, he was proved correct. The biggest problem for the Politburo was energy prices. For everything else they could gauge some idea of pricing from the international stock markets, but energy is a difficult item to price unless you have a local market to do it. And when energy isn’t priced correctly, it affects the entire economy.

The biggest problem for John and Elsie Lunchbucket is trying to come to grips with ‘opportunity costs’ – which inherently remain obscure. Moreover, a nation can have – and there is no doubt about this – as many social security recipients as it chooses to pay for and as restricted a media as it can stand.

The fact is that the Reserve Banks of all but those countries, which coincidently are bedaubed with the label the Axis of Evil, are privately owned banks. And these are the banks that issue currency. Governments aren’t involved in issuing currency anymore. Just think through the implications.

If you and your mates controlled nearly all of the world’s currency and interest rates, would you really care who was in power – anywhere?

Just Sit Right Back…

So by happy circumstance it just so happened that all of the members of Oz Stoners where on the same jet that miraculously crash landed without any loss of life or injury on an uncharted desert isle.

And I get up and say as follows:

“Freddie and his friends will both declare and enforce all laws and oversee all trade. We must give the entire island to Freddie so that he can divide it up as he alone sees fit.

“Let us give all and any weapon we possess to Freddie and his friends. And let Freddie and his friends decide all disputes amongst us, for in that way Freddie and his friends will be able to protect us from any aggression or fraud that anyone else may commit. With all of the power and all the ability to make ultimate decisions on disputes in the hands of Freddie, we will be protected from one another! And Freddie and his friends must be allowed to obtain their income from this great service by using their weapons and by extracting as much by coercion as they desire!"

You forgot the constitutional convention that we held on the island to decide the rules, which only passed when a 2/3 majority of all ozstoners agreed to it and then promptly held elections to vote in our government....

Freddie is a dictator. Australia isn't a dictatorship, it's a constitutional monarchy with parliamentary and senate representation. We get the laws we ask for in a way....

The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Bill was voted on by the British colonists in Australia in a series of colonial referenda in the last years of the nineteenth century.

From memory, no colony asked exactly the same question and some people got six votes owing to their property holding. All up, less than twenty percent of the population of Australia voted for the constitution Bill, which was subsequently amended in Westminster before being imposed on us.

On a simple first past the post, most Australians have always voted Labor.

Anyway, seeing as we have democracy, name one truly relevent difference (apart from spelling) between the two contending parties - almost anywhere in the world! Everywhere: same problems, same wrong solutions, same tragedies, the same families and interests.

Finally, name one nation - any nation - that was not established by force, murder and coercion. If WE are the government then anything that the government does to us is what we do to ourselves. The Jews under National Socialism actually committed suicide because the Nazi government was democratically elected. And they got the laws they asked for...

I never wanted to be dictator (don’t let the Cuban cigar fool you). I've already got people plotting against me. In fact I abdicate after legalizing pot and trying to expel some troublemakers. Sorry, the power went to my head briefly. I’m happy to give the LDP a go at creating utopia. My fear is that rather than “Glligans Island” we’ll have “Lord of the Flies”. At least we may have a great export crop.

As I have said before I am not opposed to many aspects of Libertarianism. The State should not interfere in citizens personal lives as it tries to now. The problems I see are the lack of a safety net for those less fortunate. What is the point of freedom for those who cannot economically participate in society? I do not have faith that the free market will provide charity. It rarely has in the past. At its worst the free market supported slavery and exploitation of the worst kind (working conditions during the industrial revolution).

I also wont believe that the free market will sort out the environmental problems we are going to face. The LDP seem to only grudgingly admit that global warming is even a problem (sound familiar?).

So how are Libertarians going to run the island? Who will get the prime real estate? Who will look after the sick? How will disputes be solved? What stops big business or rich individuals using their unfettered economic power to exploit those less off?

Yeah I really don't like the idea of a dictatorship. No offense freddie im sure you're a good bloke, but as you said the power would go to your head, especially with the next leader probably being one of your friends and the next etc. Most people are annoyed that we can't have a political party that really represents our values. But under this idea we'd have no choice, imagine being stuck with Howard until he decided to retire??

Also I think the free market is the best economic system.

Yep thats a great clip Al , and shows the ugly evil dogs of war plotting against their fellowman ... such is life in a global concerntration camp but alas i fear its too later to wrestle the power back from the capatalist pigs, such is the addiction to the power that the addicts cannot be rehabilitated they must be put down back in Hades ...
