sativa vs indica

Recommended Posts

Make sure you point out that you need to grow at least 2 for a little while until they show sex. No point in killing one of them until you know if one is a male....

Sativas would come out as higher yeild, (due to massive size alone) but not necessarily quality. (depends on what you're looking for mind you, some sativas I've smoked have been mindblowing.... but a very different type of stone)

Most modern plants are far from pure strains though, and are actually complex hybrids that tend towards either a tall lanky plant in a christmas tree shape or are short and stocky with more bush/shrub like appearance. And everything inbetween....

So yeah, you'd probably end up with more buds from a sativa dominant cultivar, but you may find indica doms are the preferred type for bud density and shape. The stone from sativa dominant varieties tend to be more uplifting and trippy, where the indica dominants tend to be more narcotic/sleepy in effect. That's another thing that you can get all the shades inbetween too, some strains producing a very, very heavy lethargic stone but others are a nice mix of the uplifting mind expansion type stone and the relaxation effect....

In the end, you have to grow em out. Seeds in cannabis are a union between the sex cells of two plants, (mostly anyway, hermaphrodite plants are another case) and as with all sex based procreation you'll get a mixing of the parents characteristics. You could easily have a plant produce seeds that had very tall, lanky and otherwise sativa dominant traits in the progeny, as well as short, compact and bushy plants too. It's all in the genes and parentage.

But the main thing is that you grow a girl. I would usually advise sowing at least 4 times the amount of seeds that you want to end up harvesting, to allow for reasonable odds with male/female ratios and selecting a good plant out of the females. If you just want to end up with one plant, point out that there's no point in growing one if it's a boy, and you can't sex them until they're a fair bit older. I'd sow a few more seeds if you've got em.

Use the best potting mix you can get, the quality ticks (the white ticks in a red box on the side) or similarly accredited soils will do much better for you than black and gold potting mixture at the local supermarket. Make sure your drainage is really good too, particularly if you're starting them out in a big pot and not potting them on. You don't want them to stay wet or for the soil to become waterlogged and rotting. Quality mixes should have excellent drainage, but it doesn't hurt, (aside from more frequent watering) to mix in some perlite or have a base layer in the pot to assist free drainage.

Hope that helps. :peace:

Yeah man you really have to grow them both until they show sex - then you might find the decision is made for you. :peace:

As for what is better - well that is totally personal choice, and each have there own characteristics.

But you won't know what's what until they are in your bong to be honest.

If you do have to choose between two females in the future, use the time you have to look at as many strains as you can in diary's, seedbanks and pics.

You may recognize some of the same features that your plants are showing as they grow and it may help you choose which one to keep. It's still going to be a guess though if you don't know what they are, so just do the best you can.

You may have some fantastic plants there so just give them what they need, and wait to be surprised.

Follow Luke's advice and read some more.

Grow Hard,

Outdoor season here is reasonably long, we're about the same latitude as Sydney. A sativa should mature fine.

Prob is it's so dry, wouldn't hurt to add some water crystals, (not too much mind, easy to overdo it with those things particularly when dry) to the mix. That's if the potting mix doesn't already have it mind you.
