Brumby tried it at uni, but now he's changed his mind

Recommended Posts

i'm feelin a bit groggy, but did this article just reveal that Australia was almost on the brink of decriminalisation in the mid/late 90s?

I have only become political active recently, so i don't know this stuff, i need a history lesson here.

It says "In 1994 Mr Brumby was Opposition leader" and was all for decrim. LEADER, that's pretty huge.

Then "Two years later, his personal opinions became Labor policy."

HOLY FROZEN BANANAS! is this no joke?! in 1996 the Victoria (or was it National?) Labor party was officially pushing for de-crim? That's amazing.

Can anyone tell me what i missed back in the mid/late 90s? What happened to this? (i didn't give a shit about pot or politics back then, was too young & too JW-christian).

I mean, all i hear nowdays is scare tactics. It seems to be political suicide to push for de-crim, no-one is willing to do it. I find it amazing that only a decade ago politicians were actually doing this.
