2kW gensets at Aldi

Every once in a while, Aldi sells some gensets. They usually have the 850 watt 2-stroke gennies which are OK for reaaaal small loads- will not run a fridge, though.

 

They've gotten a batch of 6.5hp, 4-stroke gens which can do 2kW @ 240V, for only $299. A very similar Genquip branded 6.5hp 2.8kW gennie is in my Farmer Direct catalogue for $649- but it looks suspiciously like the Aldi gen, except the Genquip unit has wheels on its frame. I think the 2.8kW figure is peak output, not continuous. Since RMS ('average') output is ~.707 x peak, the continuous rating should be 1.979kW.

 

Aldi ALWAYS under-orders stuff like this; by the time you read this, they may be sold out. Worse, individual Aldi shops won't take phone calls to confirm whether or not they have something in stock. Of course, I ran out and grabbed one of the Aldi units when the shops opened.
