Aeration of water in aeroponic system

Is it still necessary to aerate the water if using an aeroponic system..? just seems since the roots are hanging in the air it wouldent be required. any help.?

imo you'd get far better results pumping fresh air into your water, but i dont think it would be required to pull off a decent crop.

but with me not having done aero befor im not 100% sure but i would be guessing that there is still a need for fresh air to be pumped in as there still needs to be fresh air for the roots

This question was answered in chat the other nite but i'll put here for everyone to see.

 

Depending on the amount and movement of the water in your rezzy it can be vital.

 

Easiest way to create aeration in a aero rezzy is to set your return water line/drain height above the waterline, higher you set it more splash an therfore aeration you will get in your rezzy. It;s called the waterfall effect.

 

Alternately you can reduce splash an noise from the returning water but still get some aeration by attachin a small length of string or chain to the drain line so the water trickles down the chain, still get some aeration but much quieter.
