400w-600w, electricty usage.

i am thinking of buying a new 600w or a 400w grow light. is there anyway i can get a HPS and a MH in the same light. also how much would it cost for a 600w or 400w electricty usage aprox

what you want to do is get a conversion bulb if you buy a hps light kit and then get a mh conversion globe, you can use the same ballast and then switch back to the hps globe for flowering.

 

as for price, im not 100% sure but the person at the hydro shop once told me $70 for 400w and $90 for 600w over a 3 month grow season.

you don't need a HPS and MH. just get a HPS they're fine for veg and flower.

 

as for choice between 600 and 400. The 600 will produce a significantly better yield, but do you really need it? do you think your ventilation will be up to the job?

how big is the space its going in.. and what light have you had in there?

most electric companies will have cost per unit (kilowatt hour) on their web page, or it's on your bill... it's probably between 15 - 25 cents depending on where you live (if you have a smart meter and run lights at night it's cheaper.)

 

anyway the math goes like this.. 400w is .4kw 600w is .6kw

 

so 28 days x 18 hrs (veg time)x .4kw = 201.6 kw hours

 

+

 

56 days x 12 hrs (flower time)x .4kw = 268.8 kw hours

 

202 + 269 = 471 kw hours (approx)

 

471 x $0.15 = $70.65

 

a 600w works out to about $105 using that same 15 cents per unit.

well if your room will handle a 600w i would suggest you go for it as the increase in yeild outways the more $ to run it but in your closet you will need some decent heat extraction to keep your temps down

 

what sort of fan are you looking at using to suck the hot air out and what area are you in the reason i ask is if you in vic would be easier temp wise than in say darwin
