one last question for cool tubes

Thanks to everyone who helped me out with all of the cool tube info.

I suppose I forgot the most important question:

Is there a loss of light causing a noticable loss of yield when using the

cool tubes. I do plan to take out that crappy piece of reflective foil they

put in side the tube, and then mount my batwing over the cool tube.

Really appreciate any comments.

they would as they pick up alot of dust in so little time just clean it every 3-4 days a quick wipe with a feather duster small enough to get between the lamp and glass will take 2 seconds

Yeh that's a good idea and one I didn't think of.

Any thoughts on it's over all performance when it is clean

as a hydro retailer, who sells the cool tubes, told me yesterday

he thought they were no good as they did not give off the same

light compared to a 600 watter without the cool tube.

aussie1, when in that logic you would have the same loss of light with them enclosed shaded air cool hoods. Regardless of what ever you use you are now managing the heat that comes of the light directly and venting it away from the grow room. Sure the light now has to pass through another couple of mm of glass but the upside is you can lower the light closer to the plants and have a more height tight grow box/room.

Just a matter of weighing up the pros and cons.

Actually, now that you mentioned the air-cooled shades, I had

heard over the years that they were no good either, so it must be

the extra thickness of the glass, funny, I would not have thought the

glass would pose a prob. I was hoping I could still get away with 2 grows

per year, but if I lose yield I might need a third one to see me through.

Smoking less is out of the question.
