Mold

High all,

I have mold growing on the top of my potting mix and rockwoll on one of my clones , a prob i've never had before so any reccomendations would be great. I've seperated it from the others at the moment and scraped off what i could, considering just throwing it away but its so healthy.

If possible could you take a pic of the mould or of the top of the pot. At the moment without seeing the pot i would suggest that it could be green algae which is basically harmless.

One way to get rid of algae is to deprive it of light, which it needs to photosynthesize. The method is very safe because it involves no chemicals. You can affix black polyethylene plastic collars around the plant stems that cover the tops of the rockwool cubes. Other materials that can be used are white cardboard or styrofoam. If collars are inconvenient, then strips can be placed over the tops of the pots to cover them.

Hydrogen peroxide can be added to the water and will deter growth of algae, but it may also affect fertilizer chemistry.

Personally if it is algae and the plant is healthy i would leave it alone.

if its not algae as postie said and u believe it is mould stop watering so much let the soil dry out on top the mould will die in a couple of days

It's deffinatley not alge but i do have a bit so your tips are still usefull, I have stopped watering already and it's nearly dry so hopefully it'll fix the prob. I don't have a camera at the moment but can't wait to get one so i can put a diary on OS.

what are you growing in? a wardrobe or some sort of box?

you have to lower the humidity mate. Got a hygrometer? Get one. I bet you temps are a little high aswell.

Just do what they said. Let the meduim dry out a bit and get better air circulation

I'm growing in an old fridge on it's side, definetly not high temp but may be humidity. I'll have to do something for better air flow i thinks.

do what gaz and post said lad and then once dead put some sand on top of ya soil and that should stop it happening again

If you add H2O2 to your nutrient that will stop the mold growth

 

Add 2-3ml/litre for 3% H2O2 or

2-3ml/!0 litres for 30% solution

 

...and prevents pythium!........

 

Wouldn't grow without it.

Thanx stoney I'll put some sand on 2morrow, and right on merlin i should get some h202 i've considered it before but never really needed it. (Prevention is better than the cure aye!)
