Cactus ID Please

Recommended Posts

G'day,

I was hoping someone would please be able to ID this poor sick looking cactus I rescued from my mother's garden (Photo links are below). I'm hoping it is some variety of Trich that I'll be able to consume at some stage. It's about 23cm tall.

Also, does anybody have any tips on how to bring it back to good health?

And does anybody know what the white powdery stuff is that is building up on the pot?

Any help is much appreciated. Cheers!

Thanks for your reply NotDave.

I posted the same question on another forum, with one guy IDing it as a T. pachanoi (San Pedro) and another as T. scopulicola.

Either way I'm happy. I'm gonna put it in the shade and starve it of water all summer and towards the end of the season it should hopefully have increased in potency and be good to consume. In a few months I'll let you know how it goes :)

Take it easy.

The white stuff is lime and salts coming out of the clay in the terrracotta. It is harmless to plants in small amounts like this (besides it would take a lot of it to make a Trichocereus even blink). You can scrub it off with a stiff brush if you like (it will come back though) but I prefer a bit of patina on my pots and some people pay extra for that "rustic" effect.
