harpin protein - messenger

Recommended Posts

got my hands on some messenger from the states. its 3% harpin protein.

you guys heard of it. supposed to be some crazy new biochem (organic) derived from e-coli which makes plants superimmune and also grow crazy. increases photosynthesis. to be applied by foliar every 14 days.

http://www.epa.gov/pesticides/biopesticide...brad_006477.pdf

some info:

Classified as a biochemical pesticide, it is a broad-spectrum fungicide alternative with efficacy against a wide variety of fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases, some of which have no other means of control.

Harpin protein is proposed for use on all food commodities in agricultural fields and greenhouses; on turf, trees, and ornamentals.

Harpin must not be diluted/applied with chlorinated water, due to denaturation of the protein.

Target Pests: Broad range of fungal, bacterial and viral disease organisms, including bacterial leaf spot (Xanthomonas campestris), bacterial speck (Pseudomonas syringae), bacterial wilt (Pseudomonas solanacearum), Fusarium wilt, Phytophthora root rot, stem rot (Sclerotium oryzae), sheath blight (Rhizoctonia solani), apple scab (Venturia inaequalis), fire blight (Erwinia amylovora), Botrytis bunch rot, black rot (Guignardia bidwellii), black leaf spot (Diplocarpon rosae), cucumber mosaic virus, root-knot nematodes (Meloidogyne spp.), tobacco cyst nematode (Globodera solanacearum), and tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). Provides significant plant growth enhancement and suppression of some insects. Growth enhancements may include improved germination, increased overall plant vigor, accelerated flowering and fruit set, advanced maturity, and increased yield and quality of the final harvest.

Formulation Types: Messenger is an end-use product formulation containing 3% Harpin protein, formulated as a wettable granule.

Method and Rates of Application: Conventional ground or aerial foliar or pre-plant spray; seed treatment; application via conventional sprinkler, drip, or chemigation systems, and greenhouse drench application. Use rates are generally 2-11.5 grams of active ingredient per acre at 14-day intervals.

Type of Treatment: Foliar spray; seed treatment; irrigation/

not sure about burning it but tests have been done saying it can be applied to fruit and veges the day of consumption. only has 4hr period? i guess if u dont apply it no later than 2 wks before harvest should be ok? im going to do a test of it just on a couple of ladies to compare to the control batch, will keep u posted

a few guys on uk420 have been using it. its sold as a product called halo in hydro stores in the UK. its crazy, but not good if u have space issues as it makes em grow too much? not sure exactly what that means? but im going to use it on a scrog with a PGR so height is not a problem.

Hi Keepleft, any chance of a grow diary either here or on 420? Perhaps you should try it on one plant first. Are you growing from clones? Perhaps you could give them all Rock flower juice and just one clone both Rock flower juice and Messenger.

This is from a guy on another forum.

"I will say that messenger works and does work better with seperate applications of scorpion juice. (even if it pains me to say so) they spur one another along and could cure headaches as well. :scratchin:.

two things I do that work best for me.

1.Mist on the messenger dont drench and use a wetting agent betty, penetrator and the like.

2. dont spray on plants that are not healthy or deficient. Boosting a plants immune sytem if it is already stressed from nutrient def is going to make it worse.

I had a hibiscus that I sprayed with messenger and every leaf fell off the plant. It gets little light and i dont feed it ever. I figured I would try it on shrubs before buds. Most all other flower in better health seemed to bloom like crazy . Some of my mexican birds of paradise were 9 feet tall and just as fat around. The year before they only made 6 foot . I have also used it on my indoor crops and have seen great success in over all weight and girth."

hi mick good idea about the grow diary....

well i today recieved the messenger. i thought aussie customs may have snatched it from me cause it hasnt been regulated for use in oz yet, so technically its prohibited import but thankfully they were kind enough to ignore opening the box :scratchin:

anyway, you pretty much read my mind. im not going to just spray it all over everything... im going to use it in a controlled test to see how it goes.

firstly, i got 20lts of dimineralised water today and i have a bottle of DM penetrator sitting around so based on your last post i will now mix it with that. cheers.

i have a grow which is 3 weeks into flower and has been hit with rockjuice 2 weeks ago. so its right in the bud stage and it is scrogged. im going to hit half the crop with the messenger and leave the other half as a control. im doing this on saturday so ill post a pic each week of the progress/difference. i plan to use the messenger every 14 days on this crop...

but i also have another grow which has just gone from the clone box to the main veg. this is the main messenger test for me!

at the moment there only 3 days and kind of stressed from the transplant from the low light/temp into the full fledged light/high temp/humidity envrinoment, but after 14 days whenl they have kicked along i will use messenger on a few of em. (thanks for the last post about not using it on plants that arent fully healthy by the way!). and keep using it on them every 14 days for the whole grow

then when they get into flower i will rockjuice the whole batch. should be an interesting comparison

im worried about the messenger causing the vegging ones to elongate, but i also have bonzi on hand which i have used in the past in veg and it causes very very close nodes, so if elongation is a problem ill be using the bonzi ONCE only to keep em in check.

ill set up a diary and post pics for all to enjoy and learn with me!

cheers
