I haven't read Electric kool-aid acid test, but from memory I think the book was initially based on a series of tapes Hunter S Thompson has recorded when he was hanging out with the Hell's Angels. I need to check it out!

I think the legend is that HST introduced the Angels and Ken Kessey and helped set up a gaint acid party between the two groups.

Hunter S is another one of the great American writers, anything he has written is worth reading and then re-reading:) There's a great documentary about Hunter S Thompson called Gonzo that is well worth a look as well.

alot of misinformation in this thread, but the overall message is correct. the electric kool-aid acid test (by tom wolfe) is a great book.

aldous huxley and alan watts will also get you thinking.

suprised no-ones mentioned tim leary. design for dying could be the best book ive ever read, and should be read by all...
