Hydroponic herbs

Anyone ever tried growing herbs hydroponically? I'm thinking of trying to grow some basil, first because I love basil, second because you can't always get good basil, and third I think it would be a good way to learn about hydroponics, you know start on a small scale and work up.

 

So anyone done this before, I was thinking of making a little bubbler, under furos and a dome. Any ides?

Mate grows easy enough in the soil - but if you have an expensive basil habit going on try potting it in perlite and handwater outside. I like the Purple stuff. Mine has all gone to seed at the mo' so maybe artificial light is the way to go.

 

Don't grow in the same system as parsley apparently this can be quite toxic for some plants - I dunno.
