Obama: Decriminalize Pot 01-31-2008 Huffington Post Last fall during a nationally televised presidential debate, Sen. Barack Obama hesitantly raised his hand and joined with most of his Democratic rivals to declare that he opposed decriminalizing marijuana. But as a candidate for the U.S. Senate four years ago, Mr. Obama told Illinois college students that he supported eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana use or possession, according to a videotape of a little noticed debate that was obtained by The Washington Times. Asked about the two different answers, Mr. Obama's presidential campaign said he in fact has "always" supported decriminalizing marijuana as he…

Date:January 24th, 2008 Source: http://health.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=372124 The privately-held Dutch drug company Echo Pharmaceuticals expects to sell the world's first cannabis pill within five years, targeting a 4 billion euro ($5.85 billion) global market, its chief executive said. Echo said it will start clinical studies and trials of its pill, to be marketed as Namisol, in the first half of 2008. He said studies showed that cannabis-based drugs may be effective for diseases like Parkinson's, MS and migraine and could also help patients with Alzheimer's. The Netherlands has tolerated the sale of cannabis in coffee shops for decades and in 2003…

This is from the DPA (Drug Policy Alliance) I'm posting it because it should be kept in mind when drafting a similar medical marijuana bill. It seems to be something they over looked. And it is very important. California State Supreme Court Favors Employer in Medical Marijuana Employment Discrimination Case Friday, January 25, 2008 On January 24, the California Supreme Court ruled that an employer can fire a medical marijuana patient for a positive drug test, even if the patient is using medical marijuana legally under state law. The ruling did not affect California’s medical marijuana laws, but clarified that the laws do not cover employment discrimination. The…

Marijuana Vending Machines Opening for Business in LA 2008-01-24 >> news category >> general Source: gizmodo.com Holy crap, what country is LA in? I mean, last time I was there I was surprised enough at the billboards offering medicinal marijuana cards, but this is insane. Starting on Monday, people who have medical conditions such as glaucoma, cancer, and the deadly not-stoned-enough virus can start getting their fat buds from special "AVMs." These electronic drug dealers won't be out on the street next to a Pepsi machine, of course. No, they'll be "housed in standalone rooms, abutting two dispensaries and protected by round-the-clock security g…

Barb Pacholik The Regina Leader-Post Thursday, January 24, 2008 http://the3lb.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/221409-71030.jpg An RCMP raid turned up a marijuana grow operation like this province had never seen before — 6,000 plants, guns, roadblocks, and the potential for a $3-million profit, a Regina courtroom heard Wednesday. In his opening address, Crown prosecutor Darrell Blais told the seven-woman, five-man jury the case involves “one of the largest and potentially most profitable cannabis marijuana productions in Saskatchewan history.” Lawrence Hubert Agecoutay, 52, Chester Fernand Girard, 59, Nelson Edward Northwood, 58, Jack Allan Northwood, 55, Joseph Cla…

Seems Cannabis activist Marc Emery has cut a deal with Canadian authorities that would see him serve a 5 year prison term in a Canadian jail instead of a US prison, for pleading guilty to seed selling and money laundering charges in the US. His extradition hearing is scheduled for Jan 21 and he was 99% certain to be handed over to the US thugs. Like him or not, he has done more for Cannabis law reform than anyone else I can remember. He is a champion in my book http://www.canada.com/vancouversun/story.h...d89&k=19587

Source: www.news.com.au i feel sorry for the guy, but no stoner should ever step foot in bali and intend on scoring. you might as well just walk into the local cop shop and admit to killing a dozen people as the punishment would be less in the end

Just received a call from Stephanie Wells at CTV's "The Verdict" and she would like me to be a Guest on the show next Thursday with Professor Alan Young, January 24th, 2008 at 9pm. Stephanie contacted me back in December, if some of you remember and the show was cancelled on our way to the studio - the nite of the Show. Stephanie has again offered to send a car for me an hour before I have to be there as the Studio is on the other side of Toronto from where I live. She also offered to let me stay for the entire show to see Alan and anyone else who may be a guest as well... Stephanie was a sweetheart. Not sure exactly what we will be speaking of, other than it will c…

UK: Cannabis Kit Sellers Jailed Despite Pleas Sarah North Derby Evening Telegraph Friday 11 Jan 2008 Two men who insisted they believed their business selling cannabis-growing equipment was legal have been jailed. Paul Fenwick and David Kenning supplied goods, materials and manuals to enable customers of their business, based at Derby Trading Estate, in Stores Road, to grow cannabis plants. They said they had thought that the business was legitimate, especially as it had been checked by police and trading standards officers. The pair even advertised the business - Hydroponics Wholesale - in the belief they were not committing any offence. But when un…
