Marc Emery agrees to 5year jail

Recommended Posts

Seems Cannabis activist Marc Emery has cut a deal with Canadian authorities that would see him serve a 5 year prison term in a Canadian jail instead of a US prison, for pleading guilty to seed selling and money laundering charges in the US.

His extradition hearing is scheduled for Jan 21 and he was 99% certain to be handed over to the US thugs.

Like him or not, he has done more for Cannabis law reform than anyone else I can remember.

:sdj: He is a champion in my book

Selling seeds is still illegal in Canada, and he has been charged in the past by the Canadian 'authorities.'

One of the aims of the extradition hearing was to decide whether he had broken a law in both countries which was important enough to allow extradition. Seeing as it is law in both countries, there was no argument. The only defense he was hopeful for was whether his extradition was due to political reasons, and really, I think that that argument was worth pursuing.

Too late now though unfortunately B)

Remember in 98 out in the sticks , watching pot tv on dial up isp. It was bloody great and worth the effort, even though technology was somehow like talking between plastic cups connected with string.

The weedy wednesday smokefest was my favourite.

Anyway in that time it says, Emery was paying provincial and federal taxes to the canadian government which by 2005 added to $600 thou, for seed sales.

Like Tom and SS said, the canadian government are just as guilty as Emery, for taking the tax money. If they can pardon their action, they must pardon his. They profited from the same 'crime'.

Also if and as canada and US move toward compassion and medicinal cannabis, someone has to sell the seeds, and pay tax. Looks like the governments can have their drug war and eat it too. And intend to continue.

Setting a bad example, seems to be the way of leadership in this era.

Ooooh Mullaway I could not have said that better!

The new High Times has a small article on the new Canadian "G W Bush" wannabe, and he has made Canada take a plunge backward. It's mostly the new government causing all the problems.

Hopefully he will get out sooner than 5 years. The US wanted to put him away for life! Has anyone heard anything about the other 2 charged nwith him? The woman is very sick and would probably not do very well in prison anywhere...

This is really sad.

Apparently, as it is a US Federal offence he is not eligible for early parole even in Canada Granny.

The situation with the woman, Michelle Rainey, and his friend Greg Williams, who were also looking at a prison term in America was the main reason behind Emery pleading guilty as it is hoped that charges against them will be dropped in return for a guilty plea.

That bit always makes me shake my head. How the fuck a prosecutor can haggle with a mans destiny and play some sort of demigod?

OVERGROW THE PLANET! HOLD YOUR HEADS HIGH CANNABIS GROWERS! STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM AMERICA! THE TERRORISTS HAVE WON B)

Marc hasn't taken a plea deal yet, nothing is signed. Press release on the 22nd, but if they do not make a deal there will be years of process and appeals ahead of him - this hearing is not the end.

As Niall has said this is not the end, when the US has finished and won the case against Marc Emery, the precedent would be set for the US to go after the owner of Heavens Stairway, Cannabis World,HempQc and Overgrow.com and any other company/person that has sent marijuana seeds to the United States.

well either way the end is coming... if all parties accept the deal then great... but even marc stated that if they had to fight the extradition that their chances of winning were very slim indeed... not to mention the fact that if he loses the extradition he faces life in jail

seems a bit harsh for 60,000 seeds imho

It's quite scary to think you can be extradited to another country by an agency such as the DEA.
