General Cultivation Q&A

Hi there all just a experiment im going to try if i get no > replys from this. ive been reading some stuff on the net and it says a plant likes there 16 to 18hrs of light a day to get the most out of it in grow. This is one thing every grower knows and in flowering a plant likes 12hrs light and 12hrs dark. But im led to believe that its the 12hrs of dark that turns the plant to flower.Buy that a plant does not count the light hrs but will take up to 16 to 18hrs synthesization to help it grow in the dark cycle. so im thinking why not in the flowering cycle 16hrs of light then 12hrs of dark ? grew an amazing first batch of bubblegum, waited till optimum time before chopping. still smelled amazing while trimming and getting ready to dry out, and now it smells like chinck weed does not smell mouldy though. still a bit damp mind you really dont want to ruin the batch any ideas please???????????????????/

Ok quick question to those who are in the know: I have noticed during my grow that 2 of my plants have started to flower however, they have not showin pistles nor balls. Bit confused as the other 2 plants are both fems and are budding as well. Has anyone experianced this before? Not sure if this is in the right place but here goes, Ive got a couple of questions concerning THC to CBD ratio. I understand CBD is an antiphsycotic and has many other ways of interacting with THC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabidiol Different strains of weed i come across the high can slightly vary, for example body stoned or head high etc, wich leads to my first question, Does the THC to CBD ratio affect the high, and how so? Would weed with a higher CBD content be healthier, is there anyway at looking at the bud and being able to get a rough idea on the THC CBD ratio and how would you grow/cultivate plants to produce the desired ratio?

Hey, just after a newbi grow guide. Ive never grown any form of plant in my life so im after a link to a guide on starting a small hydro set up for beginners.

I have an indoor grow with height space of 1400mm. Currently I have 6 plants all around 200mm. I know the idea behind waiting for the alternating nodes in regards to the plant becoming sexually mature. However I don't really want them to grow beyond 900-1000mm during flower, due to my height restrictions. I grow under a 400w HPS bulb. Here is a pic of my plants now at around 200mm they have 4/5 nodes. I was thinking wait till either 300mm or 450mm. What do you guys reckon? It is my first time growing and have read a few conflicting posts on the growth of the plants once the light cycle is changed. I am hoping to get atleast 2 females out of these would be nice.

hi all!! im just wondering if its ok to trim the root system that is present as its getting to the point where it may block the return outlet!! there is quite a lot, there is probably about an inch thick cluster that covers the entire base of the catch pot! can i trim all of that and just leave the hanging roots?? any info would be greatly appreciated! its just a standard re-circulating system.

Hi guys, My plant in my grow cabinet is ready to go to flowering - I have been running my light (400 watt son t agro) 24 hours as it was a cheaper way of maintaining a good temp in the cabinet (Im in Melbourne) and now I want to change to the 12 hour cycle. My question is, should I do this gradually (ie 1 hr, then 2, 3.. etc to 12) or will the plant be ok if I switch straight to a 12 hour light cycle? cheers, Morphine34

as most of you guys may have seen my previous posts im sure youre aware that im very much a novice at this point, so please understand if i sound like the dopiest focker on earth when ask "is it ok to remove some of the larger leaves off the plant to allow more light to filter through the plant??" im in my third week of flower and a lot of the lower bud sites seem to be getting shaded by the larger leaves, one guy told me the leaves are needed by the plant to help in the photosynthesis process, is that correct?? thanks guys
