Medical Access

Question

A couple of months ago I asked my GP about obtaining cannabis to treat my ongoing symptoms.

"Ohh ahhh, I don't know anything about the processes, I wouldn't know where to start..."

Being that I'm in SA and there being no clinic's here (our state Gov't (Liberal) still have their heads buried firmly up their own arses)  I thought the whole process would be a waste of time

I went investigating and found a clinic in NSW, who would go through the whole process online.

So after a couple of weeks of paperwork both from myself and my GP, today I got the call from the clinic and have had the initial approval.

I now have to obtain the approval from the TGA but from what I've been told this should not be a problem and should take less than a week.

The Dr I spoke to has told me that what he would be prescribing is a CBD and THC combination as my situation is pain related.

I asked the Dr about the cost of the medication itself as it is NOT on the PBS and I have to say it is NOT cheap.

The Dr himself would not actually tell me a defined cost but advised me to call the chemist in Victoria.

Upon doing so I was told $270/50ml + postage ($30), so $300 delivered. First thought "Fuck, it'd be cheaper to go buy an ounce" but have decided to follow through with the process.

At this point I have not been told of the recommended dosages, so how long that 50ml is going to last I am unsure.

I am also unsure if I may be able to get my local chemist to get it in for me or whether it needs to come from an approved compounding chemist, solely in Victoria.

So the processes have been started. The dr and the prepaid TGA approvals have cost me $550 so far (that's without the script itself), so let's see how much more it's gonna cost

When I have any further info I will let you all know.

Just thought others maybe interested

Just got off a call from the Canna Doctors....  $50

All seems OK, maintaining the reduced opiate and the flower, 'Bedrocan', is working.

He suggested we look at something with a similar profile in THC/CBD ratios as something different to 'mix-n-match' with next time.

Might be time to do some more investigations into available medi strains, so I have some info prior to the next appointment.

I would love to hear where your research leads you.

I thought the bedrocan was very good just poisonously expensive

Ohh yea, it is good. The Bedrocan has 22% THC, but has less than 1% CBD.

Personally, I'm of the belief that, as they say 'A change is as good as a holiday', so a bit of mix'n'match works well for me.

I still have a bit of hash and some oil and so I don't become normalised to it or the effect become less effective in managing my pain, I mix it up.

My hope is that by having a variety of bud this gives me another string to my bow.

Astute as always Merl1n

Thanks Seedsman

I've found I have to be astute. Originally when I started on this medical roundabout I took the 'Dr knows best...' attitude, but when all of these conflicting opinions get fed back I started questioning their wisdom.

P.S. They DO NOT like having their knowledge being questioned, in fact they tend to get rather anti indeed about being questioned. lol

As I'm sure I've said before '...I have to manage all of this for me not them...' so I go along to their appointments, go 'yes sir, no sir. Whatever you say SIR' then I investigate. What are my options?

If there is another option, another opinion, then I want to know about it. Again as I've said before "...if someone told me facing north, hopping on one leg singing 'Kumbaya' would help, I'd give it a go...'

And as far as I'm concerned canna is no different, what are the options? what are the other opinions. Now investigate. Let's give that a go...  ...and that's exactly what I'm doing with canna.

That's totally understandable Merl1n. From what you said about varying doctors opinions to what you said about what works for you personally.

I think people need to remember that just because they're doctors doesn't mean they know what's best for you or another individual. Someone who passed uni at the bottom of their class is still a doctor, just not a good one.

And I do agree but I also believe that we the patients are partially to blame. We often place dr's up on pedestals, as being all knowing and this can go to a dr's head, inflating their egos MASSIVELY.

I've had a few young medicos speak down to me and OOOHHHhhh that's like a red rag to a bull with me and I have (in the past ) fired up giving them a HUGE mouthful. They demand respect... ...well, so do I.

They DO NOT have all of the answers. I've exhausted all of their options. So let's try mine, clinically. I've been using canna for decades but it's never been clinically 'administered' or monitored, so let's give that a go.

So, that's what I'm doing.
