Distance for600 HPS off canopy

Recommended Posts

A good way to judge light hight is place your hand palm face down at the top of the canopy if you can keep your hand there with out it burning it wont burn the plants...

^^ This. basically judging how hot the temp is with the back of your hand.

But usually 50-70cm away with most reflectors, and check by using the method Ozzy mentioned. Though a cooltube with good ventilation can get as close as 30cm, but you wouldn't want to get that close otherwise you will start 'bleaching' you tips/buds due to them being exposed to too much light intensity . 50cm is a good distance what i've found when using a cooltube.

Buy a light meter. Stop guessing. They are $50 or so off ebay. I have a 400w hps and check every week or so. There are recommended lumen levels for veg and flower

Lux meters are a great piece of kit, just like if your running hydroponics you'd definetly want to know the ph and ec of the nutrients, if your running lights, you want to be able to measure the lux and also find the sweet spot. light shield have a focal point just like a camera lens, glasses, satellite dishes, etc
