Shit hot

Recommended Posts

Trying to be extra careful in this hot dry spell to not let the patch stress too much. First round of annuals have pretty much done their thing. The second round is in and almost ready to flower. One last lot to go in before Xmas. These should take me through to the end of flowering flowering......if that makes sense.

Perennials would be easier. I’ll look into those.

Another batch of compost would be good if I can be bothered to pull my finger out as well. A few days of cool might motivate me. Be nice if I could have it finished for start of March. Hmm. Need a good compost source. lol

Slowly replacing living mulch with Lucerne. My dog and cat won’t follow me in anymore. Im hoping it’s only a python lurking. lol lol.

Cheers Kloud. Cheers Sooty.

Slapped another pile together. Took the easy option this time. Bagged manure layered with bagged sugar cane mulch / Lucerne. Watered. Easy as. Hardly a sweat. lol.

Bean plants showing spidermites. 12000 predators thrown in and around. Will put out another 10k californicus in 2-3 weeks. Compost pile getting a bit too warm.

Getting materials together. Stupid amount of coco. Haha.

Will do 2 plants in 60gal ea, with the other couple in the customary 30 gal.

Sunflower heads removed and sitting on worm farm. Pretty big.

I’ll plants some and give the rest to the local cockatoos. Xmas for them too. :)

Nice,

Yeah I love the sunflowers.

Have just got some mammoths to try. Supposed to have the jump on the giant Russians. Got some sunbirds too. Hard to beat a multi head variety when they flower. Tried a lot of the fancy ones, solar flash, and the other coloured ones but I like a long flowering period and they finish early I reckon.

I'd recommend the Mexican sunflower also, red flowers, non traditional I guess. Keep the old flowers cut back and they keep going. Native bees love them.

Drought hardy and if you stress em a bit by keeping them extra dry for a bit the red flower becomes even darker.

Growth pattern like canna, beautiful secondary growth.

Good plant to hide canna in when both in veg

Your garden looks great! Keep up the good work.
