Some trouble getting started (first time)

Recommended Posts

I am happy to report that the 3 seeds that I placed in the paper towels for a few days germinated really well. I was taken by great surprise yesterday when I opened the towels and saw they had sprouted very long taproots, and even one of them had already begun shedding it's seed. I immediately placed all 3 in dried up medium (previously i placed seeds in a moist environment). Used spray bottle to just wet the top layer, but nothing over the top like watering like I had done previously. So at this point I feel as though maybe I was giving too much water on those initial seeds.

Got up this morning and checked up on them and all 3 have sprouted into healthy little seedlings! Woohoo!

@micmac, the method I tried of just placing the seeds in some soil and water it, then keep in a warm humid environment hasn't paid off yet. Still waiting to see if anything pops up.

Thanks.

Hello, I am back now to report more problems  :(

The 3 seeds which popped up I placed them in cups with some moist soil. I made sure not to water beyond the first initial time. All 3 sprung up in just 1 night and had healthy green leaves so I had high hopes.

Over the last week I've kept a close eye on their growth. The screenshots below are the result of them..

One looks like its going to die, another looks unhealthy and stunted. And one Is growing very well. I'm really not sure what the cause might be, I've done nothing differerent to any of them.

Im a big fan of a product called starter soak by The Professor. Use it for soaking cubes to when i pot up for the first time. Its low pH and includes other nutes mag, cal, ect. Seedlings and clones are a healthy green colour. About $35 for 5lt but well worth it IMO ecspecially when it comes to fucking around trying to make smallish batches of pH correct weak solution. Also its one thing to rule out if you are having probs. nutes = tick.

Leave the poor things alone ......

get a 140mm pot ...get some organic compost ...

Place seed in a glass of water for 30 mins to an hour

water pot once well

place seed in centre of pot ...just the depth of the seed so no more than 1cm

cover with a bit of soil .

Place in an easterly aspect out of the hot afternoon sun.

And then go on a holiday for 2 weeks and leave it alone ..forget your even doing it....dont water it ...remember it is a plant that existed for millennia before humans found it ...it doesnt need you.

Your overthinking it...best of luck

Only water it every 2-3 days after it shoots
