Give them a good soaking and a little pre- crack at the tip of the shell

If they're only a year old they should be well and truly viable, so it could be that Fords scarification suggestion is all you need to do as some seeds have a tougher outer layer than others.  Another thing to try is after a day soaking get a pair of clean tweezers, grip along the seam, and very carefully squeeze until they just crack.  Not desirable, and it's easy to go too far and damage the germ, but can be done.  Using teeth is another option that gives better feel.

 

Unless they're fucked due to very poor storage.

If you can afford one of these, they are truly worthwhile. 5 seeds about 6 months old 3 to 5 days after planting in seed raising mix. Temp set on 30c.

In the past I have had issues in the colder months........I agree with the heat pad option. Personally I have a brewing fridge which I set the temp to 24 degrees which has never failed me yet....

Are the seeds all from the same batch?

 

Have you tried scarification? Give a little rub on some sandpaper before soaking or planting

if you have very steady hands (i dont any more an itsucks).. but if you do, you can very carefully slice the seed with a razor blade or scalpel.. an that will help the embryo break free.
