How to read my EC/TDS meter?

Recommended Posts

hmmm i only have 946 ppm....

so does that mean more nutes?

im a total beginner with this stuff, have gotten 4 weeks through vege now and havnt used any PH or EC meters and everthing looks healthy, just curious as to how to keep my EC and PH in good order :)

My bore water i use is 6.0-6.1Ph  and at 162ppm

If you want to use the ppm scale you need to know which ppm scale your instrument displays in.

My Bluelab Truncheon displays both; ppm = EC x 500, and; ppm = EC x 700.

The common scale used in hydroponics from what I've seen on the forum and read on nutrient bottles is millisiemens (mS). So when someone says they run a particular 'EC' they are generally referring to EC measured in mS as EC isn't a scale but rather a description of what you are measuring.

eg. an EC of 1.0 mS is equal to 500ppm (ppm = EC (mS) x 500)

:peace:

That's rite qwobbler even if you  have a dot in between the 2 numbers it mean's the same measurement,Eg={22 EC,or 2.2  mS mean's the same.

If you are not still to sure on what you are doing just google it an you will see what we all mean an are trying to tell you.

Have you got some calibration fluid to calibrate your EC meter with.

An if that meter ever shit's it self buy a Blue Lab truncheon EC/CF/PPM/ Meter next time they cost a few dollar's more but they are auto calibrated from new at the factory so you never have to piss around calibrating them an they are one of the best around an they stand by there warranty an don't mess you around with the warranty,I had to do a claim on a blue lab EC-meter about 6 months after I brought it an it took only 6 days an I had a new one to replace the other faulty one all air/mailed to me at no cost to W.A.  from New Zealand that's top class service in my book's.

Hey qwobbler I ment to tell you to wash your probe end of the meter in fresh water every time after you use it that way you will help to stop any salts from  forming on the probes an you will get a correct reading every time.

Plus calibrate your meter every month just to make sure it is adjusted correctly.
