You should have some identified, just take a couple to a local pest controller.

My reasoning is different types of Termites (white ants exactly same thing) colonize in differing ways, the 2 most common are

1. Central nest:  this means that one queen controls all the nesting sites from a central location.

2. Satellite colonies: is when they have multiple nests but each one can run independent of the others.

If its Central nest then find the source (I would suggest that pile of dead timber next to the tank) and go to town on it. This will cause most of the termites in the outlying nests (the one in your plant) to come a running to do repairs and protect the queen. That way you can treat the nest before they come back and may even grant you enough time to kill the small nest completely.

If they are Satellite colonies then you need to treat the nest internally. I have had limited success with "Ant Powder" covered baits. Get a small piece of old rotten timber ( a little damp) and cover in ant powder then place it just away from the nest entrance, they will find the timber and start taking it back to the nest and take the poison with them.

it is a real shame this has happened and I hope you (we) still get to see it in all it's flowering glory.

First I've heard of this happening - It's got me reading furiously here.

Personally I'd lean toward a Pyrethrum and Neem Oil soil drench.

I imagine Pyrethrum is strong enough to knock 'em out in the soil - Neem being systemic could slow down Termites in the plant.

It seems Pyrethrum has a half live of about two weeks, the Neem I'd repeat with every watering for a while.

Good luck Ozzy. Hope you get on top of it.

It's been great watching your thread.
