never seen any fungal probs when i've done this

maybe you could tell us more of these probs you have , so no one else makes the same mistakes as you

Just common horticultural knowledge, preventative is key youmay not have got issues but you certainly were increasing risks.

Sorry to go off topic here      Has anyone else ever tried this? I did last time I did an outdoor and got 100% females ( I think I had 10 plants). It should be noted though that out of the 10 plants I think 6 seeds came from a hermaphrodite parent (none of these plants went on to show any transsexual traits)

Thanks for chiming in ford , nice to see you've had success with this

& i have seen that seed selection pick B4 , maybe from you 

will have to pull some seeds out & have a look cos maybe you could 

put what you think are males in with banana peels & see what happens

 

Frank the original idea i read described putting peels in a paper

bag then putting the paper bag in a zip lock bag & sealing 

this process IMHO could cause probs as you describe

but removing the plastic bag i think removes this problem

there has never been enough moister to cause me to even change

the paper bag after three weeks , when i pulled the seeds out ,

& no hairy growth on the peel in the bag after 4 days when i change it out

I do understand your concern & for that reason & others i am currently trying

this method with the whole banana , anyways cheers mate
