Buying gear online - where to go for a noob? (Tent/lights/etc)

Hi Wiko

Those 1x1x2 can get a little hot

Will the room the tent is sitting in have climate control ie aircon if the answer is no and you want to grow all year round you may want to think about a cool tube

600 Watt HPS are good bang for buck

You want need a huge reflector for 1x1

Fans , you need as much circulation as you can get keeps botrytis away

And a cool tube will probably necessitate another fan

Is stealth an issue. Will it matter if it stinks at harvest time ? Do they fans need to be quiet ? You need to think about this too some fans are cheaper but noisy

Have you decided which way you are going to go. Run to waste ? Is simple for a noob

Will you hand water or put on a pump ?

The answer to these will dictate a little on your spend

Hope this helps you

Hey mate, to answer your questions;

1) Yes the room it's sitting in will have climate control/air con.

2) Visible and audible stealth of the growtent is not an issue, however smell will need to be mitigated.

3) To keep costs down, i'm happy to go with a simple and manual hand water method for my first grow, providing I can find a good guide in this regarding, telling me what sort of pot to grow in, what sort of soil/mix, and how often to water and feed with nutrients

Thanks! Hope this helps. Really appreciate the friendly community here helping out noobs :)

Just use Coco as the medium and use a 2 part coco a/b feed ,  follow the instructions on the bottle and you will be on your way .

Heaps of info about growing in coco on here .Hand watered run to waste coco method is very simple  but you can get  great results  with it .

Ok Wiko

sounds like you have the luxury of leaving your tent up once up, (it is the taking down and putting up again that hammers the cheaper tents), so you can go for a cheaper Mylar tent if you want to.

If you can stretch to it the Grolab tents imo are the best.

you are best off getting your pots from a shop for a noob, one less thing to worry about and they are cheap as.  Just get an outer and an inner

if you are in store they may tap them for you (put an outlet and a rubber sealing ring in the bottom of the outer pot)

as badseed says go with coir (coconut husk stuff)

you have to have:

a bulb 600watt hps is my advice

Ballast to start the bulb (600 watt) does not have to be digital

a shade with bulb holder cheapest will do in a 1x1

for the smell u will need a can filter these are a little exy for what they are imo get a small one and just stand it in the corner of your tent

you want one that the r125 will fit nicely on

i would go with a r125 centrifugal fan and just sit it on top of the filter in the corner of your room

i would get an axial 150 mm for your inlet, you want to suck that aircon cool air in as much as you can !

a heavy duty timer a manual one is the simplest

some ducting not alot maybe 1.5 metres that fits the r125

as for nute, keep it simple first time

Holland Forge Plantastic is fool proof and cheap

you can move to more complex nutes later on if u want to

unless u fancy yourself as a bit of a chemist

then my advice would be to look at the nute threads and the world really is your oyster

i reckon its about a grand though wiko

get all above from a shop if u can, if u can go in person even better as my advice is haggle a little

if things work out for you , you will be back to see them after all, he or she are gonna become your buddy ;)

they should do u a bundle deal if they don't go somewhere that does

i may have totally broken protocol here and apologies if I have

just tryin to help a noob

CFL for a grow i don't know a lot about  as i only use for seedlings , from what i have read the yield is questionable

for the tlc and time you put in.

fordfairlane is right about the fan tho, i also forgot a ph water tester (keep it simple just some blue and a little vial)

maybe a little ph up and down too

Thing is, CFL is drastically cheaper, so a much more attractive option for me IF it's suitable.
