Best way to harvest thousands of seeds?

I have found that if I strip a handful of buds in a jar by scraping the buds deeply with scissors and shake the hell out of the jar the seeds come flying out by the hundred.  They tend to glue back to the bud but if you put it all on a plate and pick it up then drop it a few times the vast majority of the seeds will settle on the plate under the buds making seed collection and removal of the buds for later searching/smoking easy as.

 

That method is great and all but there has to be a better way of doing things.  I'm thinking something along the lines of hash bags for seeds would be ideal.  Filtering by size like that could split up the different grades of seeds from the plant material and if it could be an automated process it would make life a thousand times easier.  I'm guessing seedbanks use a system like that otherwise labor costs would be far too high and with the countless nights of seed collection ahead of me I need something like that too.  If anyone has any idea on how to go about building such a contraption I'd love to hear about it or even just an idea on what kind of mesh or what ever to use and where to get it from would be a huge help.  I romanticised the breeding of cannabis and failed to take into consideration how shitty seed collection can be so I would be eternally grateful for any help I can get

I've heard of a family memeber, use to jus break up the buds on one side of the plate, lifted it up slightly and started moving it a bit, said the seeds just rolled down to the other side.

yeah that's the go Frank, anything flat, small mirror, stiff cardbord etc that can be tipped up so the seeds can roll off... something easy that your girlfriend can use, fuck doing it yourself de-seeding buds sucks, simple as that, and chicks with long finger nails are your best bet

if you dont mind losing some trichs, find a piece of preferably clean flyscreen

rub the buds on that, hard

 

weed falls through, you keep ya seeds, and the mulling is all done so you can smoke while you work

The tube in my potoato ricer has the perfect sized holes for separating indica bud from seed. Break the bud up into the tube, give it a bit of a rub... bud falls through but the holes are too small to allow seed to follow. Doesn't work for sativas though... the smaller seeds fall through the holes with the bud.

I really need to get some mechanical separation going though as I'm going to harvest 20+ plants every few months that will be massively seeded.  It's going to be torturous spending hours every single day for the rest of my life picking out seeds so I'm going to experiment with a few different ways of trying to separate them on a small scale and then see if I can scale it up and mechanise the process.  I've got a few ideas already so I'll try them out over the coming weeks as finances permit and report back with my results

Can run ithe buds through hash bags after.

A couple of dozen good seeds of a strain is enough for years of growing,

I'm just making F2s and letting a cut of my best ladies get knocked up too.  I want to go pheno hunting in the F2 generation for better parents, I want the security of having more genetics in seed form than I could use in a lifetime, etc.  I will also test all the seeds I make for viability, hermie bits, to see if anything special pops up, etc.  After I've preserved my genetics the focus will change to breeding for my personal tastes and medicinal needs.  Its gonna take a lifetime but everyone needs a hobby
