Veg soil

Recommended Posts

hey every one!

well my current seeds just sprouted in a 100% coco pot, and i want to put them in a slightly bigger bot soon ready for the veg stage.

Now for the mix, i was thinking. coco and perlite??

is that good? what should be added? and aslo what neutriants should i buy for the Veg stage? and how often should i feed them. i have seen cana a and cana b at bunnings and remember it from some growing video? is it good?

Thanks, any help is much appreciated !

Coco and perlite are a good mix/growing medium.

I use 70% coco. The more perlite you add, the higher the drainage of your mix, the faster it will dry out, the more you will have to feed/water.

Buy a coco specific nutrient to feed your plants. The same nutrient can be used for both veg and flower.

Start out with a weak mix on your plants and increase as your plants get larger. If you look up the brand of the nutrient you buy, they should have a feeding chart on their site that you can use as a guide.

Do not water/feed everyday, allow the medium to dry out a little......... :greedy:

Yes. 70 coco, 30 perlite. As I grow all year, depending on the season/temp, then i change my mix. The hotter it is, the less perlite i add so it does not dry out as quickly.

In colder weather I want my medium to drain faster so that I can feed up my plants. As the pots don't dry out as much, I add more perlite.

Make sure that you are able to measure the PH or your water/feed as it will need to be as close to 5.8 as you can get it. Buy a pen.

An ec pen would also be good for measuring the ec of your tap water and the strength of your nutrients.Buy an ec pen as well

You will need PH down to bring the PH level of your tap water down as it is likely to be 7+  ........... :greedy:

Coco or coco/perlite is an awesome medium.

I love it. I use a 60/40 mix myself, 60% coco 40% perlite. I only have to feed/water my large pots twice a week.

Coco specific nutes are a must. I feed at pH 5. It allows for the pH rise in the medium over the few days between feeds and gives the plants a good range to absorb all the various nutrients.

That's just a personal preference, there are others that do this too.

I also happen to used the Canna Coco A & B. Never seen it at Bunnings tho. Bunnings would probably rip you off for it anyway.

Canna Coco A & B can be used through the entire grow, from start to finish. In flower, you just have to augment your feed with PK 13/14 or whatever flowering additives you may choose to use.

There's the start of what I hope to be an interesting Coco thread that you can check out too if you're interested.

Oh, and don't let ANYONE tell you that the cheap compressed bricks of coco are no good. I've been using the Brunnings and Richgro bricks for ages without issue.
You just have to be sure to flush the crap outta them first. :)
