1st grow evar thread - hydro, autopot, tent and autoflowers

Recommended Posts

Franky, Inert is Inert mate, its a hydroponics medium, no different to perlite , hydroton or anything else used as an inert medium. Soil is not inert.

All inert mediums hold something, especially if not using automated watering.

Don't change growing definitions to suit yaself, when there is a proper definition available. And you just confusing him.

Professor.

Sorry Schmeggy, continue mate.......

Peace. Nibbler.

I have to disagree,

And to further expand the definition of inert, i would have to also associate it with a medium's ability to break down no?

I didn't know perlite, clay balls break down readily from bacteria/fungi?

Soil is soil, inert mediums are inert mediums and coco is coco, should be treated that way.....

Again schmegehead, i am sorry if I am confusing, i'm not great at putting my thoughts into words.

Although I would still reccomend rethinking coco as a bottom fed medium, especially if you want ease of use in that auto pot system.

The plants i have in my autopot system are going great, just gotta remember to mix the res every few days, and watch ph.

Franky, then can you share your substrate recipe? I want to use what works and not bomb on my first grow. If coco is harder then I should rethink my medium recipe.

I'm still going to use clay balls with airdomes at the bottom.

Can you also share nute recipes for the first 2 week top down watering and a 12 gallon batch recipe for the res?

now this is for your autopot system....

I used the 50% vermiculite/50% perlite mix that came with the begginer kit.

you can use coco but i would only be using it at a rate of no more than 30% with the rest of the mix being made up of perlite.

It also came with autopot branded nutrients a + b, for the first few weeks of growth i wouldnt be going above 0.8 ec with cannabis plants. (Can be replaced with any basic hydro a + b nutrient)

If you do decide to go with coco as your main substrate, I would be ditching the bottom feeding system (autopot) and just hand water yourself. If you do that then follow one of the tutorials available, like nibblers or buzzos.

This is my personal opinon

Thanks Franky.  Do you have a guide for your style of grow and some pics of results using your method?  I still have a week or 2 of studying (waiting on seeds) to do before I really kick this project off so I want to have a good idea of what to do from seed germination to smoke or vapor inhalation.  What size autopots are you using and have you ever done autoflowering before?

I guess I need a guide or tute or hybrid of the two from someone who's done a similar grow that I can follow step by step.

No I don't have a guide written, I do have a few grow diaries on here using Coco medium being hand watered. But i am not sure how helpful they will be to you as you are using the auto pot system, I only have my tomatoes growing outside in the autopot setup. I have no personal experience growing canna in that system, I know of one person using it for mother plants he is using coco afaik and not having problems. That being said again I would not advise it, especially for plants you are trying to get the most growth out of in shortest amount of time.

Unfortunately you won't find a guide specifically tailored to your grow space etc.  Read a 'guide' as a starting point but I would recommend browsing through the various grow diaries, you will soon notice how people have the same general systems, but they are often specifically tweaked for individual situations. To cater for different enviormental conditions as well as personal outcomes needed, hopefully after this you can come back with specific questions that will will be able to answer readily

Hate to be a downer so early into the day but you'll want to replace that growlush fan.  I literally (15 mins ago) just binned the 250mm version of that fan for being a weak piece of crap that wouldn't be able to properly handle a single 600w light on its own during summer.  You might get lucky and get a week or two of good use out of it but I assure you that when summer decides to kick into high gear you'll want to upgrade to a better fan.
