-The Collective Coco Growers Thread-

Recommended Posts

lol great thread RR!  Think I will always have a spot for coco in my growing yeah.  It is the medium that got me to my first harvest   i am aiming to one day get it simpler in a decent soil mix but coco is the go to medium for me.  i have used Canna A+B and pk, rhizo for the first grow and have since moved over tho Nutrifield coco A+B, seasol, bunnings coco bricks (or NF blocks If I have the dinero to buy online).  I am still fine tuning and will be growing right through the summer in it cos last grow got decimated by  mites lol  I haven't found much of a difference between the lil blocks and the NF coco 'cept the flushing required on the bunnings ones...additives in the list are NF cargo boost, NF Alaska pure, NF Fulife, GT cal/mag, canna pk 13-14 and a lil NF ocean mist sometimes-got 5 L of NF coco A+B so its summer coco fun with all the scramblin lol

Peace. v :sun:

I rescued the little ladies from the nasty perlite and they all have a coco pot of their own (Way To Grow Coco is absolutely awesome)!

A bit of thrown-together drobe action before they go into the big tent :)

vegging under a 130w 14000k CFL, The light will be lowered once the girls adjust (they only went under last night)

The C99 are all on the left, I think there is one NL or Doctor in there somewhere.. lol

The "i'll give one more chancers" are all in the one, and then the baby pakistan autoryders below

Looking forward to this :egyptdance:

FWIW, I avoid canna coco a/b for a few reasons. Also avoid rhizotonic and cannazym. 1. If you vege your plants indoors for more than say 6 weeks from seed and require a larger plant which is often important when the goal is to maximise yield per plant i would be adding a nitrogen source other than that which is within canna coco a/b. At a higher strength nutrient solution of canna coco you are getting way to much p&k in vege imo.

2. The bloom cycle is quite slow compared with other stronger hydroponic nutrients and has a higher Nitrogen content than desired for bloom.

If you must use canna in coco use canna aqua with straight additive/water feeds inbetween.

Rhizotonic is a shit fucking product about as worthwhile as seaweed is. Out of the half dozen or so root stimulants ive used it is the most dissapointing by FAR. Cannazyme is too weak !! (compared with most other enzyme products and is as expensive as the others if not more pricey)

Arguing if coco is inert is pointless, every coco grower knows that after a few weeks of solid nutrients there is often salt buildup. coco has an affinity for not all the macronutrients canna loves. You will notice magnesium defs if you let the medium dry out often so a Mg supplement is recommended if not crucial if you dry out the medium to fuck with the lifecycle of gnats for instance. 5.5 is too low of a ph for feeds of nutrient solution, aim for 5.8>6 when feeding them nutrient solutions. If you are only moderately feeding them flush every 2.5 weeks and then let the medium dry out to bonedry over a few days. Then up your ec by a few hundred ppm and then in the next 2.5 weeks do the same; this will help boost metabolic rate.

The bonus of coco over soil is drainage/aeration. The cheap shitty brunnings shit will just not suffice if you want to grow medicinal canna - fact. The grain is not fine enough and aeration/drainage lacks.

Do not use a ratio more than 3:1 coco/perlite for seedlings; the seedlings fine root system finds it difficult with the fluctuations of porosity and dont enjoy too much perlite as they find it difficult spreading out in the medium.

Larger plants in large pots you can get away with a 1:1 ratio; i'd recommend it.

Two words .... Advanced Nutrients. The Whole line except B52. Just dont follow the instructions though :/. the shit is fucking strong. It's cheap if you have it shipped to oz from the states.

If Rhizo is shit whats a good substiture?

I have a Cweed just sitting on my shelf can i use that with something else? I don't mind the Rhizo so far its hasnt given me any real issues.

BTW I am also a coco grower and use the usual canna nutes. I want to replace the boost as it's expensive shit and i just know i can use a substitute at home. I already have a full jar of blackstrap molasses, what else would boost contain? The stuff way pricey..though i found it for 30 bucks a while on everyones favourite fleabay.

For root growth, I use Plant Starter by Multicrop. It is 0.05g/L Indole Acetic Acid, and 0.05g/L Naphthalene Acetic Acid.

Basically it's the liquid equivalent to rooting powder/gel, depending on which one you use that is. The rooting powder I use contains only Indole Butyric Acid.

I used Plant Starter when cloning (put the cutting in it and leave them soak for a coupla hours) along with rooting powder. I also give seedlings a light dose of it to encourage root growth. AND I use it when potting up as I have found it reduces shock. I see no stalling in growth or any signs of stress when "feeding" with that and Eco-Aminogro.

But I'm not your average grower. I think most people would have worked that out by now. I like to think outside the box. ;)
