The Australian government claims to prescribe to a 'harm reduction model'. If this were true people would be able to produce their own Cannabis and Cannabis based medicines and have them tested for Cannabinoid profiles at local laboratories (just one of the many non-Cannabis related businesses that would benefit from non-prohibition).

I spent years getting angry & anxious about it and got me absolutely nowhere, so now I just try to calmly go with the flow. All we can really do is hope Obama gets his second term and allows the states to continue relaxing their drug laws regarding cannabis. Australia is never going to do it until they do.

 

On the upside, if sativex gets approved as a medicine for people who don’t have a debilitating medical condition, it will be a good argument against the government’s stance of cannabis being a dangerous drug and unfit for human use.

 

Btw, the government may claim to have a harm minimisation policy towards cannabis, but everyone knows (including the experts) that is BS. They still clearly favour a criminal justice policy over harm minimisation.

This type of attitude contributes largely to the continuation of Cannabis prohibition. I agree that anger, anxiety and burst blood vessels are not productive and I do not suggest these as measures towards non-prohibition. Continiuing to "calmly go with the flow", however, will do nothing to encourage the relaxation of Cannabis prohibition. Hanging on to the lazy idea that Australia will follow the lead of the United States (whose system is hardly comparable with ours) is a hopeless fantasy.

 

Nothing will happen without real action at a community level. I have noticed little by little that people charged with Cannabis offences are starting to demand briefs of evidence, and to plead not guilty. More people following this example will contribute in a real way to bringing about change in Cannabis prohibition.

I really don’t understand why you would be so passionately against this. If it were synthetic cannabinoid’s they were proposing to use, I’d completely understand.

 

Seriously, who cares if a pharmaceutical corporation are profiting from it. They’re going to make a profit either way.

 

I'm against the current move to bring Sativex to Australia for a few reasons.

 

Firstly it is being done by the NCPIC. It is already a tainted program scientifically just because of that.

 

It is also a serious conflict of interst IMO that a govenrment funded organisation that runs on the charter of cannabis PREVENTION as its MAIN agenda is involved in the importation of a Comercial Medical Cannabis Product from the UK.

 

This is happening while at the same time Australian Medical Cannabis companies such as Ellomo Medical Cannabis P/L, Mullaway's Medical Cannabis P/L and others are being raided and busted or hitting brick walls constantly at government levels. (I have no issue with phamaceutical cannabis....just the way its being implemented here)

 

Home grows are being busted. They cant just make their own 'sativex' at home only because of that. Same applys with the 'known' THC etc contents. Thats only prohibition stopping labs offering that testing service to the public. (the 50/50 THC/CBD ratio is just a marketing angle by GW Pharmaceuticals) Who cares if its 50/50 ratio? Is that the ONLY safe cannabis as they like to claim?

 

I'm finding it hard to understand why anyone would think that bringing Sativex to Australia to be sold at higher than black market cannabis prices currently are now, subsidised by the Australian tax payers via the PBS can be a good thing?

 

I'm finding it even harder to understand how anyone could think a program for cannabis using Sativex mirrored on the methadone program can be a good thing?

If there’s a movement happening, then show me where it is and I’ll support it. But I’ll leave the logic of being hit with a more severe penalty by pleading not guilty to a criminal offence to ‘obviously’ smarter minds than mine.

 

Btw, cannabis is illegal because the majority of society wants it that way. It’s wrong, it’s horrible, but that’s just the reality of the situation. When the majority of society decides it should be legal, then it will be.

 

The legal status of cannabis has absolutely nothing to do with the small minority of society who use cannabis not wanting to be martyrs. But whatever!

What the powers that be are doing to Mullaway (and others like him) is nothing short of a disgraceful. His obviously an Australian legend and needs the full support of the cannabis community. But he supplies cannabis to medical users, it has nothing to do with this.

Fuck, I can’t even leave the house without having a major anxiety attack. I suffer from debilitating depression and am basically bound to die a on my own, a lonely old man. All I do is just sit around hitting the bong every 4 minutes.

 

Who are you to get on your high horse claiming that people like me couldn’t benefit from a pharmaceutical grade cannabis tincture, which could very well help with my habit of just sitting around constantly hitting the bong staring at the tv and computer screen?

 

Blame an underlining mental illness all you want, but the fact is at 19 I had it all and was a healthy up and go person, with a good quality of life. Now 10 years later I’ve lost everything and have no motivation to do anything productive and am a complete mess and I know extreme cannabis abuse played a huge roll in that.

 

Cannabis is an amazing plant and may be completely harmless to over 90% of people. But to “cannabis junkies” like me (as you so creatively phrase it) it can fuck your whole quality of life up and there is no reason why a drug like sativex shouldn’t be available to people like me.

 

You want the truth, well there it is!!!! People can bitch and moan and dislike this post all they want. But it wasn’t my initial intention to come to a pro cannabis site to write about the dark side of extreme cannabis abuse. I just simply originally showed my support for a cannabis tincture, which could very well help people who may have got themselves into a rut from over use. You bought it to this.

Damn I really feel for you mate, that describes my son to a tee .... up until he left home at 17 he was brilliant at sports, won triathlons and played A grade Rugby. I hate seeing the photos of him back then because now at 25 he looks nothing like he did then.

He had great looking girlfriends and lots of mates. Only a couple of his mates bother with him now, when they visit they sit while he continues to play online games on the computer. They eventually get bored and leave.

The thing is he rarely drinks alcohol and doesn't do any other drug. That sort of dispels the myth that cannabis is a gateway drug.

 

So yeah maybe Sativex can help people in this position, there are probably thousands in the same position as Jabez and my son.

If they want to try and find out if Sativex is of any help to them then lets make it available to them. Seems to me it's pretty hypocritical to bitch about cannabis not being legal for medicinal purposes but then say not to let Sativex be released in Australia.

I really can’t answer that question for you mate, since I can’t say I have an addiction to jerking off.

 

Though, I will say that I don’t think there’s anything bad about cannabis (or jerking off for that matter). Just read some of my past post and you’ll see that I’m just as passionate about the benefits of cannabis as anyone else. Nor do I blame anyone but myself for how my life has turned out. But its kind of irrelevant how I got here, its far more important how I’m gonna hopefully work my shit out, at this point.

 

Problem is, I can’t just smoke a little herb at night. I try that and it sometimes works for a while, but before I know it I’m reaching for the billy as I’m getting out of bed in the morning. Then before I know it, days, weeks and months have passed and I’ve done absolutely nothing but sat around doing nothing but smoke weed.

 

Thing is, last year after a good grow, I made some really potent cannaoil from some honey oil & olive oil and I was able to just go without for the day and mix the oil with my dinner at night, then managed to at least get off my arse and travel around Australia for 8 months. But now I’m back and it ain’t really an option to do that, since I obviously don’t have the material for it to be viable.

 

That’s what I’m saying, if it was possible to go to the doctor and get a tincture (which would cost nothing with a healthcare card, btw), I’d be able to hopefully at least get a decent nights rest, then get my head together and hopefully work out some employment and shit. Without going back to the old habit of just hitting that bong, which just causes me to get stoned all day, everyday.

 

Anyway, that’s all I’m saying. For the most part I think the NCIPC are a complete joke and we all know there original purpose was solely to spread BS propaganda about cannabis. But I honestly think this proposal they’ve made is actually quite brilliant and could actually do some good.
