what's the best movie to be stoned too

Recommended Posts

A clockwork Oarnge was good ey, has anyone mentioned the blue's brothers? I often say I'm not keen on the second one, but when I get half way through I have changed my mind. The piece that Blues Traveller plays in that is just tremendous, can't be descibe any other way. And the last couple songs are also.

I suppose the line up of the first one and unique story is just so hard to compare to the second one is all. Nothing much can compare with John belushi, love him or hate him, he was just simply one of a kind.

I also like Apocalypse now. I was pretty young when it first came out, and enjoyed it as a shoot em up , blow em up, war movie. Even though I've been anti-war all my thinking life, something gets the pulse going when you see things go "bang". Like driving a bulldozer. hard to stay "green" in your thoughts when you get behind the controls .

But with that movie, I found one day after about the zillionth time I'd seen it, a prety profound conflict of philosophies became apparent to me. I suppose everyone saw it (the message) years before I did, and it's cetainly serious enough and centred on it enough i should have I suppose. but I'd become "programmed" after years of thinking bang bang, boom boom kinda deal. I remember I was prety smashed when the writer finally hit the nail in my head and I woke up to what he was saying. About the waging of a "humane" war. The futility (unless you own shares in some part of it) and double hypocracy in the modern concept of the objectives of war. Yes, war is wrong, and it's easy to name a million reasons why, but there's a very profound observation that the general who is assasinated is trying to make. He starts us off with the observations of not allowing soldiers to name their planes obsebe names, while their duty is to drop bombs on people. But when he starts to make the drift into his dream of a snail crawling along the sharp upturned side of a sraight razor, things that had been previosuly leanred from his dosier make a very chilling and trufull point. Well, to me it does anyway. I'd always taken the reading aloud of his dosier and the metaphorical tearing it up and tossing it int he river as just setting the stage of the need to asasinate this out of control deranged mad. I thought it was just setting the tension and justification for the murder about to come.

Problem is, I can barely watch it now as a result. His message made an impact on me enough that I can't just appreciate the guns and guts routine, and the mesage is too depressing to dwell on for two hours lol..o well.

Cold Dog Soup. I mentioned it a while ago, and have to do so again. if you have it at your local video shop, give it a whirl. What some people will go through to get some soft cuddles from a pretty woman is amazing. All hehas to do is to humanely dispose of this chick's unexpected deceased dgo,a nd they can get busy, and the crap this bloke goes through trying to be rid of this dog corpse in the middle of the night in New York (I think NY?). it's funny as, and has some kind of karma, and other philosophy jive tossed in. Even has a voodoo witch doctor channel Old Jasper's (the dog is called Jasper) voice at one satge, asking why he's being treated so disrespectfully. Warning but, as this thread is for movies to be enjoyed while stoned, this definatly falls into that confine. Watching it straight wont do much for ya. I gtaher so anyway, because I've had people I know in farm world watch it, who obviously dont smoke. And they couldnt get a handle on it at all. So be sure to have a few cones handy to top up as u go.

I'm enjoying new movies from this thread.

Thanks everyone.

I'm going to look into that Hunter Thompson one Tyrantz mentioned.

cheers

I don't know if this has been named, but I was just about to watch it "Alice's Reseraunt" by Arlo Gutherie.

Very good, funny, thought provoking, real life but good real life too.

He's a real story teller that's for sure.

Oh, and what's that Led Zepllin movie, was it Swan Song? The one they dressed a sknights, raced cars, where they explored the fantasies of each band member in a musical genre. A true mucial.

I was looking through my music collection and came across "The harder they come" which is also the soundtrack to the movie 'the harder they come". This is an early 70s movie set in Jamaica and starring reggae singer Jimmy Cliff. Its basically about ganja use, gangsters, reggae and violence in Kingston , Jamaica in the 70s. A must see for fans of early reggae or ska music (anyone?). Demonstrates that Bob Marley was not the only one putting out good reggae back then. This movie is out on DVD.

Warning this clip contains:

-drug use

-groovy hats

-groovy clothes

-even groovier dreads

-bastard Jamaican cops burning crops

-and compresses the entire movie into 4 minutes so you don't have to see it!
