12/12 , when do you start your count down?

Recommended Posts

I am curious as to when the ozstoner growers start there count for harvest .

Googleing it , i found very mixed opinions , some start there 8 ,9 or 10 week count as soon as 12/12 is introduced others wait to see the formation of the 1st buds .

I do not know if there is a "right" time to start the count down but would like to hear what growers on ozstoners go by when they switch to 12/12 .

Cheers

It took me a few grows to understand how long my strain took to flower as it is unknown. From what I can gather add another two weeks to what the breader says. But I do prefer a bit more amber in my trics.

As for the right time, that's up to you mostly. Most plants atleast double in size and some tripple so decide how big you can go. You will notice white pistals at the nodes. That is an indercation of it's sex and that it's ready for flower. Under CFL they take a bit longer to veg than a hid light.

If you start counting your flowering period from the beginning of 12/12 you will generally have to add a couple of weeks to the breeder's estimate because you are counting the transition period. I start counting from the presentation of pistil clusters and then I usually forget and just watch the plants for signs of maturity.

If you know the strain you're growing, then you should be able to find relevant guides to how long you have to wait. As others have said, usually an extra couple of weeks on top of what the breeders recommend is good. If you don't know the strain you're growing, you'll just have to monitor it for signs of maturity.

heya badseed =) yeah, I'm with louise on that one, I take the date i throw em to 12/12 , but usually start counting flowering days from when ya get ya first flowers on the branches. Some of mine take a week or less to flower, others take up to 2 weeks.... Peace. Nibbler.

Yeah I also start counting from when the first flowers appear. The only time I couldn't do this was when I had a CH9 Jack 33 that had female preflowers after 11 days of 12/12, but still only had preflowers after 3.5 weeks of flowering. I flipped to 11/13 and started counting the days from this point. Coz I had her in a 24L pot the extra time in veg wasn't a problem. She had pistil clusters about 4 days later.

Moral of the story:

Sometimes you need to go 11/13. Because of this I would't start counting from the day you flip over to 12/12.

IMO you cant really calculate days or weeks.Depends a lot on your grow space

and environment. Sativa dominant take longer than Indica.

The 12/12 cycle is just a saftey net

For indica I use 10/6 and get buds @35/40 days

For sativa i use 11/7 and get buds @50/60 days

10/6, 11/7. WTF?!

Um. There are 24 hours in a day.... Circadian cycles don't just apply to humans ya know.
