seed germination

I am trying to germinate some seeds in paper towel kept moist and placed in the sun....I have a heap of old seeds,of various ages,none younger than a year and trying them 8 at a time....its been 3 days now and no green sprouts...when do I give up and try a new batch?

I could be wrong but I think you are suposed to germinate in the dark.. around 22C

Yup, dark, cool place.

 

Mimic what happens under dirt and they'll do their thang, that's all they want anyway.

I drop mine into a cup full of water in the dark and wait at least a day until they sink or grow a half inch tail, then sow.

soak them in a glass of water make sure ph is not to high or low my tap water runs at 8.5ph i just bring that down to about 6.3 after about 12 hours take them out lay them on a paper towel on a plate spray that with water so its damp not soaking put another layer of paper towel on top spray that with water and cover with another plate now put it somewhere warm and wait old seeds can take up to a week and a half to pop i had about 15, 3 years old seeds only 2 poped

You could also scarify the seeds. Matchbox with a fine sandpaper, put seeds in matchbox with sandpaper on the bottom shake for about 10-15 seconds. Roughs up the outer shell and lets the embyro absorb moisture more quickly. Good thing to do with old seeds.
