Seed germination

Recommended Posts

i've heard many different opinions about how to plant germed seeds. ppl say tap root pointing up, some say down, and some ppl say it doesn't matter. if u plant the tap root pointing up, doesn't that mean it will have to do a u-turn so it can go downwards? which means it will take longer to sprout out of the top of the soil. so anyway, does anyone have a definate answer-tap root pointing up, down, doesn't matter?

cheers

it depends at what point you plant the seeds. taproots will always tend to pop out, then do a 180 and head in the other direction. Just the way mother nature made it. If you plant just as the seed cracks and the tap root is showing, plant it tap root up. If the tap root has already done its U turn and is heading back past the seed then plant it tap root down. If the tap root isn't showing yet, then plant the seed pointy end up.

If you plant tap root down, before its done its U turn, it will corkscrew before heading down into the medium. but like someone else said, if its a healthy seed in good conditions it won't matter how you plant it because in the end a plant will always pop up. :)
