rewiring HPS

i have a 400 watt HPS bulb and ballast combo. i got it from a friend, who had it rewired for some fucked up reason. there are three wires in the cord itself, red(which is disconnected), white and black. inside the ballast there are 3 or 4 wires that are not connected. the white and black wires are then attached to a two prong plug in. he said that the light worked in his dryer outlet. but i would like to rewire it RIGHT and get the full light.

I would suggest you take it to an electrician or send back to manufacturer, get it checked out & tested. Ballasts are not worth fucking around with if you don't know what you're doing just to save a couple of bucks.

do u want ya house to burn down? then I reakon its a good door stop, you would be better to buy a new one or at least one from the trading post or somewhere.

do you think an electrician could fix it? buying a new is not out of the question, but i'd rather not just yet. thanks for the help.

ring up hydro shops that sell them. If you can see a manufacturers name anywhere try to get in contact with them. you'll soon find out where you can get it fixed properly. If not just buy a new one and use the one you got as a doorstop like weekprik said.

Yes, an electrician will be able to fix it but check out the price of a new one first as it may be better/cheaper to go that way, industrial lighting suppliers would be the places to take it as some of them do both repairs and sales.
