Pointers 4 the noobie

Recommended Posts

Most nurseries use a mix of peat moss and perlite for seedlings.

Seed raising mix is also good, doesn't really need any perlite in it.

I myself use a mix of vermiculite and perlite, with more vermiculite than perlite.

All these mediums will be too wet and waterlogged to grow pot well.

Try a potting soil perlite mix, or a perlite vermiculite mix with more perlite. You need really good aeration in the medium.

If you're going to try a bubbler, then you'll need a plantlet with no soil on the roots. Although you can wash the soil of very gently with tepid water, you might be best getting a grow going in the soil first. That way you have something on the go safely, and given that it's a female, you can take cuttings from it, and strike them in rockwool, or straight perlite, then pop into the bubbler without disturbing the roots.

BTW, I was between jobs for a while once when I was a youngster and got some casual work installing sky-lights and wirlybirds and so forth. The heat in a celing space is unbelieveable (I was in queensland). Easily over 50 degrees celcius. And if your lights are going to be near the bathrooms, the light will shine down into the house through the exhaust fans.

just a thought.

cheers

Hey Rob, Does that mean I could suck air in to the closet to warm the closet in winter??

Would a whirly bird and a 250mm fan in my closet room be enough? Ive never had a whirly bird

maybe I could put an outlet in the closet wall out to the gap between my bricks and inner wall? or just my spare room.

Mirabella energy efficient "Slimline" Lamp. 18w=90w. Is
Nice clone light, do you know if its a warm or cool white bulb?

I was thinking about a bubbler but what about servicing the lower res bucket?? Surely I wouldnt have to lift the plant when its growing as Im sure it would stress Her and me ;)

How do I tell?

Its white and puts off a small bit of heat there is no indicating marks of text on the bulb or package

Also the health warnings on the back of the potting mix are enough to make you SHIT YOURSELF!!!

Are they safe in a bedroom? As I am constantly in fount of my computer and the mix is no more then a metre away

potting mixes are usually dangerous only on opening the bag and breathing in any dust that flys out.using a mask that you can buy from the chemist or hardware store will stop the problem there only a few $.i dont really bother with a mask but i just dont breath in when poring it into the pot.it is said that when moist there should be no hazard.lady.
