newbie advice needed

Recommended Posts

Ideally you want to keep temps between 24-27 degrees but your plants will still grow OK outside these ranges. I'd guess if you have your light cycle on at night during the summer and in the day during winter you'll keep your plants close enough to the optimum temp range. I don't think MJ plants mind getting a little cold during the dark cycle.

You will need an extraction fan in your robe. Personally I'd install an exhaust into the roof space, but if you're worried about repairing damage maybe you'll do just as well buying a cheap double robe. That way you can take it with you wherever you go.

Grows shouldn't be moist enough to worry cupboards or carpet etc Plastic and duct tape covered with mylar should ease your concerns in that regard.

You are right to be cautios about starting a fire. Make sure your ballast is in a ventilated place with no easily flammable materials around. Wouldn't hurt to have a fire extinguisher handy. you'll probably never need it, but as the saying goes, better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

Dont use the bathroom. Get your spare room and build a box, or just tape some panda film to the roof and floors to partition off your room. Hang a couple of lights in there and grow some pot.

to hang your fans you cut a circle hole in the panda film wall, stick fan ducting through it, then hang the fan up to your roof and connect the ducting to it, then all the damage to your house will be a coupla hooks in the roof.

put some 6mil panda film on the floor, it is heaps strong (unless you got cats). For extra precaution you could put some of that thick black shit from the hardwarestore that they lay down before concreting things.

ok well i guess its time to start getting myself some equipment.

I think i will go the BIR or get a wardrobe coz otherwise

they will get too cold, this place doesnt have central heating

or nothing. I will be trying to get some clones from a bank

(heh that sounds really kewl), so will probably only be growing

4 plants or so. I figure it will be easier than seeds for a newbie.

So now i need lights, from what i have

read the HPS are the way to go but are expensive, wondering

if really need them for a small amount of plants? could i just

use fluros? the other thing is, dont the HPS need some

sort of special power outlet coz of the high voltage?

i dont wanna mess around with electrical stuff.

I want to keep it all as organic as possible, just the idea

of ingesting plants full of chemicals makes me sick. I had

a good read of some of the pinned posts and was really

good to learn something from others mistakes. From those

it seems a few people had problems growing in soil. After

germinating some bag seeds i got, i tried growing them

outside in some supermarket potting mix (:D) outdoors

this past summer but nothing happened basically.

So what would be the best soil to get or a healthy

alternative?

mate a HPS light has a ballast, which is just a little box which plugs into a normal power point. A 400W HPS light kit will cost you around $200-$250 depending where you are. A 250W something less obviously but I don't know as they aren't available in hydro shops. You'd need to go to an electrical supplier. Anyway a HPS is a good diea IMO, it will produce way more bud than fluoros. It may mean that you only need to grow 6 months every year instead of full time.

You could get clones and be fine, but if you have never grown before I would suggest getting some cheap seeds to learn with. If you stuff up and kill your clones you could be wasting your money. Having said that, I am a pretty inept grower myself and have learned that it takes a lot to kill an MJ plant, and a lot of first timers do great with clones.

In terms of soil look for one with a PH of around 6.5. I have had success using Searles.
