lol im not sure about this one...see, mother nature goes a little bit dim near the end of the season. you get that glorious autumn light, which i believe hps simulates pretty well. my thought would be to get em up and at say2-3 wks, go full tilt. turn (assuming 3 same wattage lamps) all of em on ,drop 1 at last week of veg, drop next one at 1/2 way thru flower. run with 1 til you harvest...at that point you think about flushing, "last 2, lights out"(for the last 48hrs),etc... if this theory seems a bit fucked up, please someone, tell me. lol BTW, i only have 1K myself, doing what i call "hydird",hydro-hybrid...4x4 baby pool filled with perlite, coco and 3in1 manure. just enough room to get round the back if i have to. its great for 16 big cuttings(re-veg 4-5 times) or a few seeds.ANYWAYS...back to the point...my thinking is the setting sun on the horizon, we probably all been growing outdoors for a while, watch mother natures light cycles :D thoughts anyone? G'day all,

Knowing that the stimulant for plants to start budding is the change in light [shortening winter days], and that planting late in the season results in small plants because they don't have enought time to mature properly,

if you were to put a plant outside during the day, and bring it in at night and put it under a normal light, would this have any effect on the plant i.e

would the plant 'think' it was getting more light and not start to bud?

Or does artificial light not have the right ingredients that natural sunlight has and it will bud anyway?

Any comments would be greatly appreciated

Cheers

So following sawyers logic...any light based stimulus would set the plants flowering...

But does adding all you light at the beginning open up more flower sites than using half your light...lets say 2 metre by 2 metre area with 1500 watts for the first 2 weeks then 2500 watts for the next 2 weeks then the last of the lights making them 3300 watts total....

Or start at the beginning with 3300 watts..........

:D hi sawyer, basically if you were to move your plant to the light under the back porch every night, youd stop it flowering. but if youre wondering for the sakes of real-time (as in now),its cold out so going in at night would be a benefit, any direct light would keep the plant from flowering(down to reading level), although something more powerful would encourage growth as well, giving you a head start on the coming season... :D

hope ive helped...

I'll take a crack at this FoL... :D

I think the more light through its life, the better. Provided that you focus that light to the canopy whilst they are young, just a matter of efficiency in veg really, and then spread out the lamps as the grow progresses. This is a Scrog, right? 2m x 2m... *whistles and shakes head* Jeeeeezus man that's huge... I hope you've planned it out with modular access... Or in a mandala or something, because it's going to be a bitch to get to the canopy...

Anyway, I'm not a big scale grower, probably never will be, but I have a feeling that more light = stronger and faster growth, with all else being available to the plants of course, co2, temp, water and all, but being who you are you know all that... :D

So IMHO I think you should go full on, the reason that most growers would stage up the lighting would be electricity usage and light footprints... You may have to get a couple of sets of different reflectors, (or an adjustable one) but you'll make them plants rock if you give em 3300 watts...

Can I ask what the specifics of the proposed grow is? Just curious as to your hydro system, nutes, etc... Good to see someone planning to overgrow the country, or at least a 2m x 2m area of it... ::o:

Hope this helps, if I sound like I'm talking bullshit just ignore me, like I said, not a big scale grower myself...

Hiya Luke....this was for a previous system.....and yes there was a foot gap around the whole frame...easy access....

Normal sized room...9 foot ceilings..recirc system...optimum flower....potash....and superbd.....frame was set on metal stands which are height adjustable for the lights.....mesh was 4 inches by 4 inch squares...scrog....

Have worked out scrog sux.....am interested in krusty feedom bucket method with vertical hanging lights...loads of oxygenated roots and constant watering.....

Am currently having a break...doing a bit of writing..trying to get the phd idea up and working...

Hiya Nimer...yeh they could probably do the same with 2000 watts of light but its just easier for them to leave the lights in 1 fixed position
