POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER

joeybc

Question

Hi I've just started the use of cannabis as a treatment of PTSD and would like to add some advice on the subject. First of all I'm not a regular pot user; once a week is more than enough for me, but when I do use it it is such a relief to the disorder and its symptoms. I am on an awful lot of medications for PTSD and although they work for a large majority of the time they don't work all the time. However a single cone of cannabis is such a relief. It takes all the signs and symptoms of fear, agoraphobia, body tingles and others away. It is such a wonderful few hours of escape for me to be without the symptoms of PTSD.

How I got PTSD is not important here, however I fully understand the guys in Vietnam being reliant on cannabis to quill the pain for an hour or three. I understand now what I thought were loose morals and discipline.

I don't know if this is the place to ask but I was wondering what is the best type and strain of buds to take for a laughing high? I plan to grow just enough for myself to use so I'll only need two plants max. If some one could point me in the right direction I would be most appreciative. And where to buy the seeds from?

Thanks to all who support this forum.

Cheers, Joeybc

Hi and thanks for the advice Paladin, Frazz & phreak1987. Yes PTSD does suck major!!! But it's good to know that there is an alternative to the opium based meds. I take a lot at night and throughout the day to stay calm and to help me sleep and doing without them three or four days a week is good for my liver. It's nice to have a bit of marijuana to subsidize the medications that have been prescribed for me. I've gained a lot of knowledge over the last five months or so (thanks to Ozstoners and Treating yourself). I had a couple of Indicas that finished off early and that has been great for my disposition. And yes the Trichromes have come back in the last week or so on the hail damaged plant. The plant is not as heavily laden as it was however it is looking pretty healthy now. It's only about 20" tall but it looks nice in the sun (see Picture; Bubblicious). I have managed to have three different strains flowering at different times so I've been able to stay medicated just right. I have a few sativas that should be ready in about another five weeks (boy they certainly take their time flowering) they are between four and six feet tall and full of buds. I'm looking forward to consuming some of their smoke and making some cookies as well. They are great little ladies...

For those who don't know about it there is a publication put out six times a year called Treating Yourself. They have the older publications available for download for free; go here (http://treatingyourself.com/expo/wordpress/?p=198) and navigate to the archives section of the page.

Once again thanks for all of the input, I really appreciate it.

Regards Joeybc

i joined the army at 17 and at 19 was sent to timor with the rest of 3rar. after 1 year on the dili-dollar-dash (as it is known now) i was sent home and after 2 weeks i was having serious panic attacks, nightmares and all the rest of the negative state of mind attributes with ptsd.

i was totally against drugs but after 6 months of trying different pills and being a zombie with no sex drive or lust for life i kindly accepted a toke on a joint.

it changed my life. i have been an everyday user ever since. also i found that gardening ( not weed) helped a lot. for no reason at all i bought 3 roses and planted them. it felt great, then i went to food production and finally ganja.

i found californian orange to be the strain for me. the 50/50 split of ind/sat really put me in my place and lifted my moods.

timor was over ten years ago. the memories are still there, i just have trouble remembering them

Yes Bill I'm with you on the alternative medication for PTSD, though I don't use it every day. Just out of curiosity do you have an advocate working for you for a TPI claim? It maybe worth your while looking into it. I am currently working through the process. It is taking some time but it will all be worth while in the end. Although you are younger it is still a good idea to get the medical coverage that a TPI claim will give you. Let me know if you want to find out any info on the process.

Personally I prefer the Sativa dominant strains for my medication. I made some nice hash browns two weeks ago and they were made with Indicas. When I have a little bit more money I will invest in a vapouriser and give one of those a go. I'm not one for smoking too much although a waterpipe works well for me. I would like to be off the prescription med's altogether as they are pretty heavy on the liver and do have some negative side effects such as no libido. I haven't been able to have sex in five years due to PTSD and the med's that I'm on... And that really does suck.

All the best to you and everybody else.

i really feel a connection with the earth and feel totally at peace in the garden, the giver of life.

no i dont have any claims. i went thru all that in the begining. i want NOTHING to do with the govt, rsl, army. i dont march on anzac day and i dont hold national pride so far up the pedestal as i used to.

the first couple of anzac day marches that we attended when we got back we all wore orange as a protest for better mental health support for veterans. we all got locked up in a paddy wagon. some rsl old vets told me that timor wasnt a war...as far as im concerned if you'r being shot at in a foreign country, then its a war. (ironic coming from a vietnam vet, a police action).

i just want to be left alone. grow and smoke my herb in peace and still trying to adapt to society.

oh, dosage rates. doh! 3 times a day, big fat joint, rizla green :yahoo:

Hi Bill, yes I know how you feel with the ANZAC day march and get together. I haven't attended a march or any of the associated festivities because it is the ARMY. Some people don't understand this stance that I have adopted, but that is life. I just want my sanity back. As for the TPI claim I think it is something that you may look at when you get a little bit older. But hang in there dude. I'm with you on wanting to get back into the real world, however someone has to pay for the medical expenses and it's not going to be me. DVA can take care of that. I have lost so much in monetary value with my investments and there comes a time when we have to get what is due. The reason I have an advocate is so I don't have to deal with the system that screwed things up in the first place. They act as a buffer and take all of the stress out of our lives.

I think it's great that you have a hobby with the gardening, if it works then go for it. The only thing I grow is my few medical plants and that takes care of my green thumb.

regards
