seedlings falling over

Recommended Posts

So, bringin up a new lot from seed(arent clones so much easier!), they get to about 7days - 2" tall - and seem to fold in the middle and die. Any ideas? When i look at em after the fact its almost like theyve been crushed in that area - which they havent.

I tried transplanting a couple and burying them deeper but, after theyve stretched back up again, theyve seemed to do the same thing. I dont think ive over watered or underwatered but wot can it be? Im growing out of seedling trays in a even mix of perlite/vermiculite/coco under a fluro grow light, about 200mm from the light.

thats 'damp rot'... Less water, or water less  there is a fine line between drying out and overwater in the first couple of weeks.

Might be that the medium is just unsuited to seed raising, I know straight coco can be a bitch for seeds :scratchin: try starting in a good quality seedraising mix, then once established repot into your preferred medium (just wash potting mix off roots in water with a dash of rhizotonic or superthive).

:peace:

edit... sorry using rhizo and superthive as generic terms, any decent root tonic or vitamin B solution will do the job.

Hi m8. Damping off is a fungal thing. Your prolly killing em with kindness. But if you insist on overdoing it, pour some Fongarid over them from the word go. Just one hit will do it. Also fixes pre-emergence damping off. Both ailments are caused by the same fungus. Back off on the water. I stuffed lots years ago from the same thing. It stays in the soil and pots, so don't use either again. Fongarid is in most harware stores.. ..cheers..bb
