Best light for seedlings ?

Recommended Posts

Don't 'overthink' the situation. However, it is a reasonable question.

I'm currently using fluoros but have done HID in the past. (my opinion) It doesn't much matter during veg.

14000K lamps are good for aquatic plants and corals. I suspect this is so because the frequency of light generated has good penetration of water.

5-7000K lamps promote vegetative growth.

25-3500K are better for flowering. (but I'm currently flowering under 6500K, because I can't easily get 3K range at the moment. They're in day 12, I'll post results when they finish)

There is strong evidence that _some_ 5-7000K in conjunction with ~3000K during flowering increases yield. This is easily done in a large space by having 1MH for every few HPS, in smaller spaces a mix of the more efficient (at low power, <200W) fluoros can be expected to kick HID's butt.

Some growers suggest >100000K during veg has produced good results.

Particularly as 'plant density' is lower during veg and as I appear to be getting reasonable result from 'off the shelf' fluoros for veg, and due to the simplicity of implementation, GO FLUOROS.

NOTE: All I'm interested in is the light output at the temps, the 'spectrum' of the light. I really don't care about light type (HID vs fluoro vs LED), and am only interested in the result (BUDS).

PS the idea of 'strong' photons from HID that penetrate the canopy further than the 'weak' photons produced by Fluoros is something astrophyisicists need to look at. Most scientists would suggest that 'a photon is a photon'.

thanks guys for all ya responses, sorry for the late reply but iv had shit to get in order.

iv decided to sprout them under fluorescents for the first 2 weeks just to get them going

then put them under the 400w, so what type of fluorescents do i need because i read differently

on every web site i read on some people say 2 cool whites and some people say a warm white

with a cool white so witch is it and witch method is best just for starting em for the first 2 weeks

in a propagation tray

also i have heaps of seeds but they a shit stain, would any one recommended a site that they

got seeds in recently and yes i have been to xww.cannanation.com/seedbanks/ but i recon its bs

and most of the reviews are old ore from over seas with has shit customs or the seed breeders them self are

making an account and making a bs review or a bs review against a rival company so if use could

recommend a company use got into australia recently i would appreciate it

thanks again

I use three double batton fluros 18watts gro lux fluros (6 x 18watt) for initial veg period. When plants have established themselves and look comfortable I put them under a 250watt metal halide bulb. Then a 400w hps watching the cabinet temps. Planet Skunk or Seed Boutique are the only two I have used no problems getting seeds.
