hey rastagirl....

i'm sure that i read here somewhere that you can harvest in stages, removing the buds that are ready and leaving the rest to mature...

there is also a theory that you can smoke buds at different stages of the "hair" colouration...thus helping you to find out how the strain smokes at different maturation rates....so you could take the whole indica out if you wanted i guess....but its up to you, i have never done this and cannot be sure of its accuracy, while it does kinda make sense to me...

anyhow, i'm sure there willbe others to help out and correct me if i'm wrong....

hope i have been of some help...

I've had problems with this too.... Where do you take your readings from? The oldest parts of the plant with flowers which may have completely withered pistils, but not yet going hardcore on the resin production? The tops, which may have some resination on the tops, but is still producing fresh flowers daily? Or is harvest not something interpreted by individual flowers, but the flower production as a whole?

When should we be aiming to harvest? After flower production drops? As soon as individual flowers are mature? Or when the total resin production starts to taper off? I don't know, it's all very confusing.... Any advice will be appreciated...

peace

g'day; it is not as difficult as can be told.

i would harvest buds when about 70% of pistils are dead, you can harvest the mature buds only and leave the rest to finish a bit longer.

by what Rastagirl is describing, i would harvest entire indica, sativa can take 10-18 weeks to finish flower completely.(most are 10-14weeks).

indica finish about 6-10weeks.

once the trichomes start going cloudy, that is sign of degradation, harvest time.

if you got good mag glass, look at trichomes, most should look like glass mushrooms kinda, if they are like hairs and not mushroom, they not ready, if they are all mushroom like but heads broke off some trichome, harvest now.

i like to harvest when pistils are atleast 70% dead.

hey all,

usually i read all the relplys to a post before i reply myself but i'm too fucked up rite now. so if the topic has drifted (as the usally do) i apologise cuz i've got a question to do with ripeness ;)

my white hairs aren't slowly changing color like all the ones in the pic Tom posted, they're like white to the end and shriveled and brown at the end. i dunno if its a problem or if i'm a drama queen. The leaves on the plant made it look indica dominant but now the fingers of the leaves are sooo thin and delicate i'm think she mite be more sativa. anyways, shes a sativa dominant recieving direct sunlight in the morning and flitered light through a tree of the evening. its been budding for a fair few weeks now (~5-6). i can post a pic, 'less ya want me to scan so buds ;) . but any help would be a appreciated

yeah, got a copy from a friend of an old mj grow book from the late 70's early 80's...It mentioned some indoor methods for harvesting under lights...once you've harvested, you can lower the lights and get another harvest...havn't tried this myself but I read this straight out of an mj grow book...

g'day; pete, if plants are sativa dominant then they be finishing around 10 weeks.

when looking at chart that was posted, ignore time scale, just watch for colour 1st .some sativa take upto 20 weeks to flower, i think Vietnamese black is 18weeks flower time.

Hi

Just thought id'e add my bit

from all the info that iv'e read and experience you should really go by the trichomes on when to pull your plants .

they go from clear to milky to amber in that order , for a really strong high you should let them go until 70- 80% trichomes are amber, i used that method this year and had great results and it takes the guess work out of when to harvest.

i used a 12X mag glass but at least 20X would be better

this is a photo (not mine) at the amber stage......

hope it helps

Choofr :(
