my reply-

What a load of bullshit that is heh.

Weed causing mental illnesses is crap. You have to have something wrong mentally in the first place. The weed just allows it to come out in some people. It doesnt give a normal sane (whatsever that is) person mental illnesses. Theres been just as many tests done that proove it doesnt.

Some people will believe anything on the idiot box. http://www.ozbiker.org/vent_forum/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif

Educate yourself Rocky, before spouting such crap.

responce here (missing out a few of the replies-

The old cause or trigger arguement is long dead and buried, I think you to get up to date with the education. All the medical professionals now agree that it is in fact a cause of mental illness and is not just a trigger to a pre existing mental disorder.

The THC has now been proven to severly and permanently change brain chemistry, the higher the THC level and/or prolonged use the higher the risk of mental illness.

I am with Doc work in the health or emergency service field and then see whether you believe it is a harmless drug.

Rocky

AND-

smash ,

that site is a pro cannibas site .

I work in the Psych system and 54% of patients in public wards are drug induced psychosis or drugs have a major bearing ( underlying schiz) etc etc

Regardless of what the Pro- legalise want and how they go about it , it still comes back to the same thing ...........It causes and exaserbates pyschiatric illnesses.

If you believe this bullshit that drugs dont have a bearing or serious effect on mental illness, then feel free to come to work with me when I am working acute psych and working in (high dependancy) Lock up , they are violent , aggressive paranoid ++++ , responding to visual and auditory halucinations.

After spending a day in HD with me you will see the real effect that drugs have on people.

Personally if people use it in moderation , then you will find there is little hassles, but how many people do you find that can do things in moderation ( ie drink, drugs, smoke etc )

I dont want it legilised as then my son could do it and it would be lawfull.

I have told my 3 boys , I catch him takeing ANY drugs that will be the end of them.

the way mental illness is defined and treated is constantly changing. most of these illnesses are difficult to diagnose. you only have to go to the library and dig up an old psychology text from the 60 s or 70s to see this.

im convinced politics plays a part in this especially in the allocation of funding for research.

my worry is that it has become so accepted that cannabis causes mental illness that some may be talked into believing that they have an illness when in fact they may not. never underestimate the power of thought. i dont mean to trivialise those that do genuinely suffer from mental illness. also has anyone considered the fact that pots illegality may itself cause some of the problems. years of haveing to hide your activities dont do anyone any good, worrying about being busted, ripped off, labelled a criminal, jailed, and generally excluded from society coz of your smokin habbit. all this is bound to add up.

i find it strange that after nearly 30 years of smoking i have only met 1 schizophrenic who incidently had been diagnosed before he started on cannabis.

also strange that countries with a long history of cannabis use appear not to have any greater mental health problems.

cannabis definately effects the brain as does EVERYTHING WE DO, that is why we use it. tv has been shown to have a negative effect but i dont hear any cries to ban it

i think thy are getting it around the rong way . i smoke it because i hav depretion witch started way b4 i waz smoking weed and its been helping.

yes..i too find ganja excellent for depression relief.

I am a manic depressive (Bi-Polar) and I am never gonna take drugs again.(MJ is medicine..not a drug)

When I was in the funny farm(I had been handcuffed and taken their as a consequence of my manic state)they forced me to take lots of drugs..antipsychotics..etc....i was expected to be on legal drugs for the rest of my life..but fuck that shit!!!...

I self medicate with ganja...its all I need.....and I doubt that our govt will legalise marijuana until America does...after all we didnt make it illegal until after America did(political pressure) even though the AMA in the states opposed making MJ illegal..(they were using tinctures of MJ for medical reason up until 1937)

I hope/wish that the Aussie govt will grow some balls and actually lead our country in the directions its citizens want...instead of simply folding under pressure...and toadying up to the Yanks..I cant have respect for our govt until they start to have respect for their citizens..and what their citizens want..(that goes for all govts actually)

What do you think of the government? (someone asks me) I reply....I try not to... (think of the govt)..:peace:

For the most part there are some brilliant arguments here B)

I said pot can cause mental illness, not that pot does cause mental illness. there is a big difference in those statements.

Your 'big difference' is merely semantics. By saying that marijuana can cause mental illness means that you believe it does, even if it has a small chance of doing so. Saying that it does cause mental illness does not necessarily suggest that it does so 100% of the time. I have yet to see anything remotely proving such a theory, nor have I gathered that from hanging around a lot of stoned people.

Considering the radical changes to human existance over the past few decades, it is practically impossible to determine if pot is the cause of anything other than the obvious immediate effects. Diet and exercise play more of a role in determining health than anything else in an otherwise healthy individual. In Western societies both of these take a backseat to laziness and a diet rich in stimulants(cigarettes, coffee, artificial colours, flavours and preservatives, pesticides and herbicides, prescription drugs etc) to get the mind to the state we want it to be.
