ph down Q's

Recommended Posts

Is the phdown used in aquariums considered organic?

Can acids such as vinegar be used without harming me mullies?

What and how much do you outdoor growers use to get ph down?

The reason I'm asking is that I've got some plants in the ground that are growing real slow and the ph is about 7.5 lol

:peace: maybe I could've left the dolomite out of this patch lol

Thanks in advance for any help guys lol

:ack:

i have used the aquirum ph down and while it does drop the ph, it allows the medium to build up salts which are no good for the plant lol

my advice would be to stop stinging on your garden and spend $7.50 at a hydro shop on some proper pH down....its not expensive at all, especially considering the fact that the $7.50 will get you a 500mL bottle that could last you for many years :peace:

For soil outdoors you'll want sulphur to lower pH in soil.

Won't matter much if you adjust the pH of the solution you water it with if the soil itself is highly alkaline. Treat the soil to bring pH back into a reasonable range, (you're not that far out for soil) and then you should see an increase in growth.

That said, could be other things rather than pH causing slow growth, although that will be a factor, certainly...

:scratchin: I've found that it is always a good rule of thumb to avoid nutes and fertilisers etc. that are not specifically for soil in soil grows as salt build ups and nutirent imbalances become a common problem. ( if used used though, use sparingly )

:freak: As for ph down in soil, as luke said sulfur. There are a number of sulfur based chemicals that can be bought at most nurseries or garden centres made specificaly for adjusting soil ph.

Thanks guys

I'll dodge the aquarium phdown then, aye :toke: I only considered it becuase the previous owners left some here and I don't have an aquarium!

Sulphur sounds like the go :freak:

Soil ph is generally a bit low here, so I'm used to prepping gardens etc. with dolomite. It's the first time I've had this problem with mullies in the ground.

:scratchin: These plants have been trying to flower (I started em in Sept, too early :peace: ), so maybe that has caused the slow growth. However the ph is def up a bit.

Thanks again stoners.

Hey 67spec yeah mate, I steer away from the vinegar or orange juice type downers. Still buffer with dolimite too. :freak:

If your going away from the organic carbon based area.. and haven't overdone your mediums with N, try a pinch of ammonium sulphate trickled in around the drip zones.

Good luck for the season now :scratchin:
